About our health care system and welfare benefits.
Am Canadian, but Iāll chime in.
Was really obsessed about moving there around 2013, but the criminality ramped up and now Iām not so keen on that. At least not going to London. Maybe the rural areas are better, but I donāt feel that strong of a pull these days. More leaning towards the US, some place with conceal carry and good first amendment protections.
I might visit though, when Iām more well off. Got a lot of relatives there.
Empathy based and compassion, I guess. Fully unsustainable and lacks the benefits of private insurance. Benefits some more than others at tax payers expense.
Makes people dependent on government and changes society for better or worse, i guess.
I think our heslthcare system could be vastly improved. More important than going to mars. We need a team of musks to figure this crap out. Perhaps, streamline it, make it more competitive, and way cheaper. Meds and health care should be cheaper and not exceed inflation.
We have a shortage of doctors. Paperwork and overhead and regulations increase cost, frustration, and inefficiency.
Doctors are scared because of malpractice. Its expensive.
We need more freedom of choice. More competitive markets. Less monopolies.
Iām German but Iāll also chime in. When my parents said we are moving to the UK when I was a kid, I thought oooh we are going to see lots of Dalmatians due to the movie 101 dalmations
To me, they sound more progressive, like they would have better care and benefits.
They seem to think not to belong to āthe continentā. Weāre taught differently here across the channel.
Iām South African but Iām guessing Englandās health care is better than ours! We are seriously underfunded here, especially with government mental health services.
Private hospitals are good quality but too expensive.
Govt hospitals ok but when you are stable they discharge you from outpatients to day hospitals which are horrendously overcrowded.
Iām fortunate my husband can afford a private pdoc for me!
I envision getting proper care by Drs and nurses who are compassionate and non judgemental. And that itās accessible and not the expensive mess that American health insurance has become. I am a fan that more people drive manual over there, and I used to watch top gear a lot!!!
I am from the US but lived in London a short time. I thought the free healthcare was great, especially because I didnāt have any money. Not having to sort out insurance cards and in-network providers and co-pays etc⦠In the US you could be in the ER with a gunshot wound and a patient care rep will still roll up to you with that cart to get all your policy numbers while you wait for the doctor.
It was pretty convenient that the pharmacist could prescribe certain meds too.
I hear london isnāt really an english city anymore? English people being displaced by immigrants for cheap labor?
Then again I was pro leave-eu
You need your own representation not someone in Germany making decisions for you.
really really bad dentists
Is that your car?
Australians think of English as whingersā¦I worked with a lot of English people over the years but the downtrodden but resourceful people are the English. Thereās something to be said for thatā¦but they do complain a lot
It was I bought it from a dentist actually. I since sold it
Because of their fear of malpractice doctors often practice ādefensive medicineā. Theyāll get second opinions and over treat, costing more money than is necessary. But then again, I heard that like about 15% of hospital deaths are due to doctor error. I donāt know if we will ever get it figured out.
Are you wealthy? I have a hunch.
That car was a 2004 Jaguar XKR it was worth less than 20k$. I bought it to flip it
What do you mean?
It looks like social democracy is making a comeback in Europe. Let us know how it works out.
I honestly think of castles. King Arthur legends. Pubs with odd names.
Never really met any English folks tbh. Canāt say I go for the whole royal family stuff. They seem more like expensive Christmas tree decorations than heads of state but thatās only my opinion. But then again my old German penpal quickly asked me if every American owns a gun. Well, I couldnāt lie to her so said basically yes.
Cultures are fun.
