What are the most effective, safe, researched supplements currently?

Hello, I’m new here and can’t stop reading all of the great information. I’m a bit overwhelmed by all of the posts regarding supplements currently out there. Can anyone give me information on the most effective ones? I know it varies person to person, but I think some have a greater success rate than others. My son is 18 and has been resistant to most medications since being diagnosed 2 yrs ago. He continues to struggle with both positive and negative symptoms as well as with depression and anxiety. I am so hopeful that some of these natural supplements can make his current meds more effective so he can have a life without this constant torture that this illness inflicts. Thank you in advance. I’m so happy to have found this place!

I take l-theanine 300mg, twice a day(600 mg total) and it helps a lot. But the main thing is for him to get on the best meds for him. Supplements are just that, supplements.

Snap (although lower dose) didn’t know anyone else on here took it and yes your quite right no point taking supplements without the right mess. It is a long game which some of us even after years of treatment are still playing but eventually you will find something that at least helps xx wish you all the best

Thank you! You’re right about him needing the right meds first, Abilify has been the best so far and Trilafon has been added, but he still suffers too much with symptoms to feel like they are worth it. Compliance has been a struggle. I’m hoping the supplements will give him enough benefit for him to feel like they are helping and give him HOPE.

The state government here used to give out Omega 3 supplements along with APs until they couldn’t afford to.

As far as the actual question, the answer is vitamin c.

WE have a summary of the vitamins that seem to have reasonably good research behind them and suggest they may be helpful for schizophrenia. See here:

I’ve read that the EPA Omega 3 supplement can help with the side effect of EPS from the AP’s. My son is sensitive to that side effect so that may be helpful for him, thank you!
Has anyone else had that ir other benefits from omega 3’s?

I was on omega 3 for about 6 months and didn’t notice anything. It takes 3 months for them to have any effect, if they do have an effect.
