I have that issue but with radios at work. I work in a loud environment so I wear ear plugs. Everytime I leave at the end of my shift, all of the radios sound like they are screaming at me that I can’t leave. And a lot of times I believe it.
I can get it with the toilet flushing too.

Our old air conditioner was like that. It was awful. The dishwasher is the worst, though. I have to turn it off sometimes because it scares me.
I used to get this kind of stuff too.

I get this kind of thing all the time. It’s a common symptom of schizophrenia.
Clattering dishes, fan noise, mumbling voices, these are all avenues of hearing hallucinations for me.
It’s not overly bad during the day ,but at night (toilet flushing) it can exacerbate that ‘I can sense a presence in the flat’ feeling .
This might sound perverse , but the fact it sounds like talking but I can’t make out precise words is frustrating .
