Vitamins/supplements for schizophrenia symptoms

Be very careful mixing meds with herbs. You can have some pretty nasty and scary results.

When I could afford vitamins I took a multivitamin and vitamin b 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 , and 12

@Apathy - Why were you taking the B vitamins? How much were you taking and how often? Did they help any?

I can’t remember why I started taking them but it had something to do with my psychiatrist talking about natural remedies for the side effects of the meds. I would take 1 tablet and the bottle said that was like thousands of percents for each one. But they did help, so I continued to take them. They elevated my mood and helped me focus. Kept me from feeling that flat emotional state and thought blocking.

So how expensive were these vitamins that you couldn’t afford to take them anymore when they were helping you!

They were inexpensive. But I ended up paying for more bills that were coming out of the wood work. And now I have to save up for a semester for school at half time. So literally all my money is going out.

I go to doctor who specializes in OTC nutrients. I take a lot of pills!

The spouse is not on meds for the moment and under his doctor’s care. Nothing he takes isn’t ran by the doc first.

I am going to put in my usual two cents here about ā€œorthomolecular medicineā€. I have an ax to grind, and I am going to grind it a little. Vitamins for SZ don’t have any appreciable effect. If anything, they give a placebo effect. You can get all the vitamins and minerals you need in your diet, provided you don’t use junk food, coffee or tea, carbonated drinks like Coke or Pepsi, alcohol, cigarettes or street drugs. A balanced diet high in grains, leafy green and other vegetables and some legumes with some fruit will do the trick. Get some pleasant exercise. DO NOT lift weights or walk on a treadmill. Walk or ride a bike. DO NOT jog. Enjoy life. Forget the SZ. Live it up!
