Vitamin Pregnenolone - New Treatment for Schizophrenia - anyone trying it?

What is OTC nutrients and do you think it will help those with refractory schizophrenia?

OTC stands for ā€œover the counterā€ - which means, vitamins you can buy in stores yourself (not medicines you have to buy from ā€œbehind the counterā€ - i.e. from pharmacists.

There are OTC nutritionals (vitamins) and OTC drugs.

I ordered 50mg Pregnenolone from PipingRock and have been taking it for a little over a week now. I don’t know if it could be doing anything yet but I’ve noticed that I’ve been more motivated recently.

Let us know how it goes over the next few weeks.

I have ordered some pregnenolone through amazon.will try it and see how it goes.i take a Chinese herb now which I have found to be very good from my acupuncturist.

What’s the herb called?

jia wei Xiao yao

Thanks for the info!

no problem! your welcome

@SzAdmin FYI, my order arrived a couple of weeks back, but my physician asked me to go off all supplements because of a cardiac issue I’m dealing with. Went off caffeine first, but that didn’t completely eliminate the issue. There is concern that some of the supplements contain undeclared caffeine because it is often used to boost the effectiveness of medications and supplements. There may also be some other stuff in them – not appearing on the label – that could be a concern.

I will let you know how this works out when I’m allowed to go back on supplements. In the meantime, doctor’s orders. (sigh)

No problem - hope your cardiac issues go away!

I’ve tried 50mg of micronised pregnenolone, I was feeling a bit sluggish, I found it a bit of an effort to get showered and do my chores after taking the pregenolone I was up showered did all my chores and my muscle aches diminished, I read it’s really good for adrenal fatigue, since schizophrenia is a stressful illness I guess many patients have adrenal fatigue, I felt a little light headed for two days then I was fine, a useful add on for patients with schizophrenia, I’ve got delusional disorder which is the hardest form of schizophrenia to treat because patients react badly to meds, I now take 800mg of sulpiride, 200mg SAMe, Inositol, 50mg pregenolone, methyfolate(don’t take folic acid) solgar, B6, flaxseed oil ( don’t take fish oil it contains heavy metals) calcium, D3, I spent thousands researching a cure for schizophrenia after reading about B3 but basically their isn’t a cure at the moment my own belief is that a cure will probably be a combination of heavy metal detox and stem cells but it’s way off, things you can do help yourself is if you find a med that suits you stay on it theirs lots of quack cures that don’t work and stopping your meds will just cause undue suffering, detoxing heavy metals like copper, Mercury, lead, aluminium can help, B3 helps to detox copper from the brain but it isn’t a cure, cilantro, coriander smoothies help detox heavy metals, if you do decide to detox heavy metals consult a nutritionist with experience of detox, the book Nutritional Healing which is excellent contains advice on detoxing heavy metals, acupuncture is a really good adjunct for patients with schizophrenia finding an acupuncturist with experience of mental health is difficult, Chinese herbs can be useful because of schizophrenias stressful nature it can put a heavy load on the body, herbs I’ve found useful, Wen Dan Tang, Gui Pi Tang, Jia Wie Yian San, keep your gallbladder in good condition, flush gallstones, other things I’ve found useful are mindfulness, Buddhism and feng shui avoiding stress and learning to manage your illness are the vital to recovery with medication and having a support network, best of luck and get well everyone with support and a combination of meds and complimentary meds you can get well.

I had a litle pain in my gut, so we looked into my gut. I have like lots and lots of Gall Stones. But we decided to leave them alone.

Why do you say anything about Gall Bladders?

in Chinese medicine the Gallbladder is linked to the emotion fear which go’s hand in hand with paranoia, you can flush gallstones with herbpharms stone breaker formula and lemon juice, there’s also a tea available from Rio Amazon, the Chinese herbal formula Wen Dan Tang warm the gallbladder decoration is indicated for schizophrenia, I had gallstones, it only took about a week to flush the stones I felt much better.

the CBD available is coming from China were it is grown as soaks to absorb environmental toxins, I wouldn’t buy CBD unless you know it’s certified organic or you could be getting a load of heavy metals.

hi pat,
I found SAMe and Inositol the best treatment for depression, don’t take fish oil it might contain methyl mercury your better getting your omega 3 from organic flaxseed oil, methyl folate available from solgar is also good, B3 helps to detox copper, you can also detox copper with manganese and molybdenum, I found detoxing copper eliminated racing thoughts, it isn’t a cure but it’s a useful treatment, copper toxicity is indicated for paranoid schizophrenia. I did Qi Gong and Tai Chi years ago there really good the eight treasures is a good exercise, I’m into all sorts now, feng shui, Taoism, crystal healing, Buddhism, acupuncture, nutrition, angel therapy.

the core of my training is qigong.i practise every day.it helps me so much but im open to all kinds of healing including what you mentioned in your post.even with the training sometimes/days I feel crappy but I still train never the less.im better now than when I was first diagnosed with sz.i take a Chinese herb for my liver which my acupuncturist prescribed .liver is linked with gallbladder as you know in TCM.it has worked well for me.good luck with your training scribbler…

sad to hear that, I finally see a face to the writings on her nice to see a face, when you were given the orthomolecular treatment for t.d. what did they give you? My son suffers from it and he hasn’t improved at all on any of the medications the doctor’s have given they all have horrific side effects if you could please give me that info I would be gladly appreciative
