Treatment Resistant Depression

I was diagnosed most recently as TRD but I disagree with my doctor. ( Sorry for not having all the lingo down yet.) She says I have BP2 but I think I have sz. I have very sudden ups and downs from presence, or lack of positive symptoms of sz/sza. From what I’ve read sz can present with labile mood. (Post #1)

I should have asked if there are any opinions out there.

It’s pretty rare to self diagnose sz. It’s just the way it is.

You can always get a second opinion but depends on your access to healthcare. I’m just an internet hack and you should be bringing this stuff up with your psych. Yeah there’s some bad psydocs out there but they get a feel of things if they’ve been doing it for a while.

Try to go through the process and do the treatment they suggest. Labels often change. Symptoms will too!

I’m not asking for a diagnosis and I know self diagnosis is like being one’s own attorney. Her diagnosis was done is about 30 minutes, basically a snap diagnosis. I was put on olanzapine due to the voices pending another visit.

Voices will do it. Take the zyprexa and move from there.

I’m not a doctor. She is. Trust it and just do the process. 30 minutes is a hell of a long time with a schizophrenic if you turn up delusional and psychotic. You pick that in two minutes tops.

A good shrink listens and picks your mood, logic and everything else and it’s all pretty simple.

She seemed to think my logic was too orderly although the info I gave her was not in a straight line as in hypomania. Thanks. I’m on it and won’t stop. I hate the voices but I’ve dealt with them for a while now. Not delusional, just the hallucinations. Thanks!

Hey no drama. Not trying to be dismissive and hope you didn’t feel that. Taking the pills is good early. Early intervention with appropriate medication leads to better outcomes! Diagnosis often changes which isn’t a bad thing as the disorder and symptoms change or develop.

Voices aren’t fun and it’s not normal. That is something worth taking the pills for. Taking zyprexa…eat well and watch your weight gain. Exercise is good and you need to keep on top of it! It can be a big weight gainer!

Will do. I’ve already started on the diet as I know most APs cause weight gain and some can lead to diabetes, like Zyprexa. I was on Seroquel for supposed depression before and I actually lost weight on that. I’m lucky to be skinny to start with and I’ve stopped eating sweets. I apologize for the self focus, I don’t know what that’s a symptom of other than narcissism and I’m too nice a guy for that.

ya i have treatment resistant sz too, with depression, the only med that helps for me is clonazepam (for anxiety and epilepsy from the abilify) and Saphris for depression i also just lowered my abilify to see if i get better and happely i am right now

every AP except abilify and Saphris are weight neutral for me , no no for the seroquel and zyprexa for weight gain and i have hyper eating side effect on Solian

30 minutes is actually very short for a diagnosis, and misdiagnoses are very common, especially when doctors don’t spend enough time on the it. They don’t pick up on it in two minutes tops. When I was diagnosed, they spent weeks and many hours on it, and gave me several tests. That’s the way it’s supposed to be done.

It’s not rational to trust a diagnosis that was made that fast. I think the point here is that she’s still on APs, so at this point it doesn’t matter that much what the diagnosis is.

Usually a pdoc will have an initial consultation with you, and from that they may venture a tentative diagnosis. The with subsequent follow ups, talking about symptoms and the effect it has on your life, they can build a more accurate diagnosis. Not everyone gets diagnosed easily. Some psychiatric conditions are similar to others. For example - for a few years my pdoc wasn’t sure if i had Psychotic Depression or Schizophrenia. It was only after follow up consultations and monitoring of my symptoms that made it clearer that i had Schizophrenia and Depression. So don’t feel discouraged by this recent visit. I’m sure you’ll have more and your pdoc may revise her diagnosis of you. In the meantime, take the medication prescribed, participate in therapies if you want to, exercise and eat healthy. Good luck.

I’ve been treated for depression since my teens and my major was Psychology, but that was some time ago. I’ve read quite a bit about Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective disorder, PD/MDPF, Bipolar 1&2 over the last couple of months. My symptoms seem to fit either sz or sza. I’ve had what seem to be the negative symptoms of sz for a few years. The voices became too much. My PD was hesitant to make a psychotic diagnosis and I was reluctant to be diagnosed with one due to the stigma. She said it would take at least 8 hours of observation to make a clinical diagnosis of sz or sza. Neither of us has much confidence in the paper exams. I’m not discouraged. I’ve had voices for over a year and finally was able to let someone know other than me. Thanks for all the input!

Be careful with self diagnosing. I diagnosed myself with OCD and was partially correct, but I couldn’t see the whole picture. I assumed my voices were part of OCD, and in being treated for OCD I found that the voices never went away. Looking back on it, now that I’ve left the diagnosing up to the professionals, I can see that I was developing psychotic symptoms. I was told that before the same year I got really sick for the first time, but I dismissed it because I believed that I had correctly diagnosed myself with just OCD. My point is, diagnosing yourself is never a good idea. If you know you are starting to have psychotic symptoms, go see a psychiatrist and discuss your concerns with them.

What usually happens when someone is feeling bad on forum is “Go talk to your doctor”,like doctors are almighty.Since I was first diagnosed and checked like @anon9798425 told, they gave me diagnose.Later it was changed million times bc every doctor thinks that he can see through person.I go to nearest psychiatrist, and spend quality 2 minutes for her to write something stupid and say"See you in three months".

That’s because doctors have been trained in this field and usually know better than us. If your doctor gives you an opinion that you don’t trust, you can always get another opinion, but asking for confirmation of your self-diagnosis on an online forum full of people who barely know you is likely going to end badly. I don’t know the OP. I’m in no place to make a diagnosis. If someone believes they are having psychotic symptoms, they need to go to a doctor who can help them figure out what the problem is. It’s not to be mean, it’s to make sure the OP can get the right treatment.

There are criteria for every illness.First you do tests, like MMPI and Rocharcs test and other, and then psychiatrist can tell what disease you have.I didn’t want to provoke you just to say there are professionals and “profesionals”.Only those tests last up to 8 hours, without others.

I really don’t want to self diagnose. Just wanted the opinions of others who have been through being diagnosed with a psychosis of some kind. It’s one thing in books and another living through it. THX.

Diagnosing it as something different wouldn’t affect me. It doesn’t matter what the name of the symptoms are, those symptoms remain unchanged. Unless the label changes what medications they want to give me, it’s a bit of a fool’s errand to find the right one.

Oh, I understand. We can’t really diagnose you, but I can say that the fact that you’re hearing voices is concerning. I am worried that it will get worse unless you stop it in its tracks. You said you take Zyprexa, right? That’s good, hopefully it will help. If you’re still experiencing hallucinations, make sure your doctor knows. According to my doctor, they may never go away completely, but it’s still good for your doctor to know so they can keep an eye on you and see if you’re slipping. Also there are plenty of antipsychotics to try so don’t get discouraged if the Zyprexa doesn’t work out. You said you don’t have any delusions, right? Okay, that’s good. Did you have delusions before the Zyprexa? If so you should make sure your doctor is aware of that. In short, tell your doctor everything. Personally, my mom discourages me from telling my pdoc about suicidal/homicidal commands and thoughts, but I think I should be honest and I will be from now on.
