I’ve had a psychosis once last September, I didn’t have any hallucinations, just delusions. The only time I’ve ever been manic or hypomanic was during this same episode. I recently went 2-3 without meds and had no problems. I also recently had a psychological evaluation again and got diagnosed sza for the 4th time. Several of my docs including my current doc have told me they don’t believe it’s sza, but I’ve been getting this diagnosis from doctors over the last 4 years. I don’t generally struggle with paranoia either, my biggest issues are fatigue, insomnia, and stress. I don’t know what to do, I’m on meds now but I’m still not sure if it’s delusional that I don’t believe my diagnosis
I hope you resolve this - even if it’s just for your own self. You need the correct diagnosis to get the right treatment.
This is one for the professionals I’m afraid. Just be wary, as for me it has led to non-compliance and hospitalisation and I would have thought they would have pinned the blame on poor insight rather than denial.
Can I ask what you feel it is @anon82230070?
Right after my episode I was really tired like all day everyday, now much less so. I get stressed really easily/ intensely, and I have a lot of somatic problems (headaches and stomach aches). I kinda think i might have some ptsd, but I’m afraid that belief might be delusional so idk. Lmk if that’s relevant and descriptive enough
I don’t think it’s delusional but I do feel diagnosis can take time. Sometimes they give you one they feel fits until all the symptoms emerge and they get a clearer picture. I was diagnosed schizophrenia and schizoaffective and finally bipolar 1 officially but the dx took 8 years. I would say hang in there till everything becomes clear and make sure you write your symptoms down for your pdoc to see.
Thank you! That makes sense and helpful to know others have been in similar positions
My biggest concern about the sza diagnosis though is that I’m fairly high functioning but the diagnosis itself can prevent me from working some positions I’d like to pursue. I go to school/work almost everyday and I’m not manic. I was also involved in a court case in which my pdoc several years ago diagnosed me sza for the first time, I’m wondering if there’s a lawsuit that can come from this. I don’t hear voices, have regular paranoia or mania, I don’t talk to myself. When I think of schizophrenia or hear about experiences people have on this forum, my symptoms don’t seem to match up
Don’t worry. It’s just a matter of time till you fit the diagnosis. Be happy with it and start living. Meditation is a good stressreliever. They are plenty of free programs on the internet. You have to make the effort there is no way around. We as humans got to work one way or the other. By work I mean effort. Its like finding a comfy position lying in bed.
I think that’s why they’re medicating me. They want to medicate my beliefs away. I think I was misdiagnosed with OCD and sza so they could give me meds.
@anon82230070, Here’s yet another thread, of the thousands, from sza’s claiming that they are misdiagnosed. I get tired of these kinds of threads. It’s just a common symptom of sza to think that they are misdiagnosed. Just another symptom. If you have ever been depressed or manic in your lifetime, then, chances are good that you are sza. Accept your diagnosis and get on with it.
I have found once your diagnosed with SZA/SZ and its in your medical notes all futures pdocs read them and will continue diagnosing you with SZA/SZ. It may change between the two but once its in your notes its hard to get it taken out.
Yes, @bobbilly, this is truly the case.
You say your not delusional or manic, that’s probably because your on meds.
I’ve been delusional once several months ago. I’ve gone several months without medication and had no problems. I struggle and relate with very few people on here unfortunately, because I don’t experience paranoia, delusions, mood changes, regularly. Isn’t there at least a fair chance it’s not sza? Maybe you shouldn’t group ppl by their diagnosis and judge situations for what they are.
