I take Olanzapine and it gives me increased apetite. I heard from a friend that Topamax can be used to lessen weight gain from antipsychotics. Anyone here on Topamax for that reason? Does it work?
I tried it like 7ish years ago and didn’t have any luck with it.
Topamax gave me awful tremors. I hated it. It doesn’t seem advisable to take such a strong med in the hopes of weight loss. It can really affect your brain.
I lost a lot of weight on Topiramate. But I had really bad side effects.
Also, topamax is really activating. I worry it would make your insomnia even worse.
It worked for weight loss, but it also made me incredibly dumb and manic at the same time. As you can guess, bad combination.
I’m taking topomax as a mood stabilizer but also in the hopes it helps me get my appetite under control. So far I’m up to 100 mg and I’ve noticed a moderate decrease in my sugar cravings and in my appetite in general.
Perhaps it is not worth it. I will see what my pdoc has to say tomorrow.
