This is what appears on google if you type "are schizophrenics violent?"

Individuals with schizophrenia are 4 to 7 times more likely to commit violent crimes , such as assault and homicide [4,5], and 4 to 6 times more likely to exhibit general aggressive behavior, such as verbal and physical threats [10,11], compared with the general population.

This makes me angry…how can we ever erase stigma with articles such as this? No wonder everyone is afraid of us

Well the last time I was off meds I committed domestic violence (a judge ruled), vandalizing my mom’s car and threatening to burn the house down. I realize most don’t do this, but I’m one of the ones who does. That’s why I don’t fool around with not taking my psych meds, all the trouble I got into the last time.

that’s terrible.
I’ve never done anything bad,
and it’s been a long haul of it.

The last time I was punched in the face was in a mental hospital. The last time my car was broken into was outside a psychiatric day treatment center.

I told Mrs. Jayster I was schizophrenic thirty years ago. She recently said, everything they told her about schizophrenics fits me. Sorry, dear.

I have to stay away from children if not accompanied by someone because I know so little about them and tend to be inappropriate. Mostly neglectful. I don’t let it become resentfulness anymore.

I was violent too.

I bit the police woman’s hand because I thought I was dying and wanted to escape the hospital to be free at the end not locked in a ward on my own

There have been times I have been emotionally violent. It was bad. I would say that from personal experience these numbers are about right, but we also have to keep in mind that schizophrenics are much more likely to become victims of violence.

It’s only low functioning ones that are… I worked a job part time as a mental health worker earlier this year and every single one of my co workers had stories of getting injured it was pretty dangerous lol….

But I quit after 3 months because of bad management, nothing bad happened to me but the chance was pretty high of it happening…

Probably never gonna work a job like that again lol but mad respect to those that do.

Well my last case manager said I am high functioning now, but I don’t know if I was when I came to the clinic in 2008 after my domestic violence. I’ve been doing rehabilitation day Services since 2008.

You cannot erase a stigma that is fact & true. I threatened a co-worker with a knife and I was on anti-psychotic medication.

I am not allowed to be around Boston Cream doughnuts without an escort now. There were several incidents of savagery on my part in the past and the doughnuts did not survive.

I’ve had violent thoughts also. I saw some videos of people saying f$-#ing Ni@&er and I will say it sometimes when it feels like my voice is taunting me. I normally don’t have racist thoughts.

Google isn’t the be all and end all of clinical data. Take it with a grain of salt and most sz people aren’t violent and it’s mostly reported it’s less than general population.

I’d link a good study but that is harder to find through google itself which just shows you the problems of the modern internet when it comes to facts and fact checking.

Probably more likely to commit violent crimes in the mentally ill population.

Stats show that people with mental illness are more likely to become victims.

@laetitia Schizos (not mentally ill people in general) are both more likely on average to be victims of violent crime and to commit them. If stigma makes my disability check fatter I’m all for it. I think normies also face a lot of stigma at the hands of other normies.

Is violence even a bad thing? Ukrainian violent resistance to their country’s invaders is a thing of beauty.

Normies don’t face any stigma at all- that’s why stigma is a stigma. Stigma is created because something is different from the normal population.

Also, there is something called just violence. I don’t know if we’re allowed to discuss the war here, but people of Ukraine are defending themselves so that’s perfectly okay.
