Isn’t it unrealistic to expect this forum to avoid all the polarization and conflict that the world spawns and that the media magnifies? Aren’t we in that world and affected by it? Don’t some of us have the contentions of the world fighting within ourselves?
Some of these issues worry me for example, being a man who was raised a feminist but finding myself suckered in by the Playboy Philosophy, then turning a male feminist in the late sixties, and then jerked back to “the girls are trying to look pretty” in the seventies, and now having internet porn available and having no contact with thinking women in my circle. (And these are just personal neurotic-type issues. Many people in this world are dealing with life and death interpersonal and international conflicts.)
Another example is faith and religion: I have disagreed on some level with virtually every post on atheism and religion.
And I don’t go for knee-jerk politics. But…
What I’m saying is we live in world where conflict is common, if not ubiquitous, and we shouldn’t expect to avoid it here.
