not sure. I’ve been eating meat now for the last 2 years since my hospitalization. prior to that I was vegan. eating meat doesn’t make me feel any better, I thought it might help me put on muscle but im not sure that I care about that anymore.
was thinking maybe just eat eggs and cheese. with loads of bean salads and peas and pistachios for protein. I haven’t decided but im feeling called to make the switch back to more of a plant based diet even though I don’t think I will go all the way back to vegan.
it’s so confusing, there are so many diets and people who say their diet is superior. I don’t know what to believe. Im not smart enough to figure out the studies. there is a youtube doctor, dr. Gregor who is a big proponent of a plant based diet. he says all the research points to that as your best chance of living a disease free life.
the odd thing is I still have to avoid grains. even gluten free grains like rice and quinoa give me excess mucous that gets caught up in my throat when I eat it. but I have no problem digesting most veggies and beans.
broccoli and bell peppers are too fibrous I guess and they will give me gas when I eat them. I learned that when I was vegan. but my digestion stays pretty good even when im eating mostly plants. I have an iron stomach.
I’ve been lacto ovo vegetarian for two years. Gonna try going full vegan in some days. Got some eggs and dairy products left in the fridge.
From what I’ve read it"s best to continue with B12 and Omega 3 supplements. I’ve found some vegan products for that.
I was a vegetarian when i was younger. I thought that eating meat was causing me stomach problems. In hindsight i think it’s more likely all the alcohol i was drinking. Good luck with your diet.
good luck going vegan. I was hallucinating non stop as a vegan but I wasn’t on meds. it might be different now if I tried.
I would go vegan if mom and dad changed their diet, but they eat meat for dinner everynight. I hated them when I was vegan, now I don’t worry about what they eat, but it makes things harder on me when they’re not understanding. I eat meat on rare occasions still.
A vegetarian diet does not limit processed goods that contain white sugar and flour and the diet also allows frying of food and trans-fats. So the plant-based aspect of the diet is healthy, but not every aspect including excluding wild fish such as salmon rich in omega-3 fatty acids. The big studies have not shown increased longevity or much protection from any of the common cancers or vascular diseases just from vegetarianism/veganism.
Vegetarianism is a moral choice, not a health-promoting one. When real scientists control for the fact that these people tend to have other healthy habits, the supposed benefits (longevity, protection from various categories of disease) disappear.
I admire the moral statement against the cruelty of factory farming. If you do not supplement (B12, several others) you will ruin your health – your physician can guide you.
I tried going vegetarian, with very little eggs and dairy as well. I never did it right though. I didnt supplement and all. So i started to feel real bad.
I still like the moral side of it though. I hate the way we treat animals and how i contribute to that. I do try to eat organic meat when i look by myself.
I would love to eat a mostly vegetarian diet but its hard when living with my family who dont want that especially cause i just give mum food money and she does the groceries and cooks dinner maybe one day i will live alone and then i can become a vegetarian.
I recently became a vegetarian.
But I take omega three oil supplements .
I was a ethical vegan for eight months but then started eating meat again and did so for three years till now.
Strangely I put on weight when I became vegetarian but I always put on weight when I exercise because I eat more.
I think fish oil is good for schizophrenia .
So I have heard.
I am not ready to be a full blown vegan again.not yet.
I have iron deficiency so my gp prescribed iron tablets for me and they are a bit expensive.
I should meet with a dietitian but have not gotten around to it.
You sound knowledgeable.
Unlike me…
Unfortunately I am not so knowledgeable in what to eat and struggle making dinners .feels overwhelming and like such a big task.
Maybe you could go vegetarian but start off with supplements and have your iron levels tested if you can or if you have difficulties getting enough in your diet.
My reasons are ethical which means I should be vegan but I’m not ready.
It’s so strict .
I care for the environment and animals.
It is said that the best thing a person can do for the environment is go vegan.
I have my plate full just being a vegetarian for now and that’s with fish oil capsules.
You seem knowledgeable so I do t think it would be a problem for you but maybe you should start off with supplements.
