I used to take Klonopin until I went to NA and got a sponsor who said I couldn’t take it. I haven’t really slept well since I stopped Klonopin October 29th. The NA sponsor stopped sponsoring me last Thursday, and I’m back to going to AA meetings because I don’t want to encounter this sponsor. I thinking of asking for Klonopin so I can sleep. I have no other symptoms I need Klonopin for. Do you think I should take Klonopin just so I can sleep?
I think you should avoid it @anon54988740. Maybe 50mg of Benedryl might help make you drowsy at bedtime. It’s over-the-counter and is not addictive or narcotic.
If that doesn’t work, maybe Ambian?
Ask you pdoc for an appropriate sleeper, just make sure he or she knows that you have a history with addiction.
My nurse said klonopin isn’t a sleeping medication
It’s for anxiety I believe.
You can try Melatonin, which helps and is natural (I think).
No. That’s not what it’s for and it doesn’t work long. I take Xanax and at first it put me to sleep but it doesn’t anymore.
Geodon used to make me tired too. Doesn’t do that anymore.
I take 2 Benedryl every night for tremors and that used to make me tired too. No more.
But I take Lunesta. It’s a controlled substance too but it hasn’t lost its effectiveness. Have you tried that or Ambien?. Ambien will put me to sleep too. You have to experiment until you find what works.
I tried Trazadone, Remeron and Seroquek. Apparently they work well for some but not for me.
Good luck. I hope you find something.
Maybe a better approach would be to ask your PDoc about exploring solutions for your sleeping issues. There are many meds for specific purposes that they can explore with you. Klonopin is a benzo as you know and is more than likely only going to be prescribed for anxiety, and even then they can be reluctant to prescribe it (for good reason.)
I take klonopin and I wouldn’t say it helps with my sleep at all. It can make me tired yes, but it does in no way improve my sleep or make me sleep better, in my case.
I agree with what people have been saying here. It is better to avoid taking anxiolytic drugs to help with sleep. They only last 4 hours before the effects wear off, and there is the risk that you’ll develop a tolerance to it over time, meaning that you’ll end up needing more and more of it for the same outcome. There are different antidepressant medications that have sedative effects you could try - such as Mirtazepine. Speak to your pdoc, i’m sure they’ll be able to help you find something to help you sleep.
My doc gave me Trazodone for sleep and Vistaril for anxiety (and help with sleep). I have Klonopin that I used to take for panic attacks but I haven’r had any in quite a while.
How about coming off of bezo group? Zolpidem!!!
