Thinking about getting a Dog :)

idk if i will but i am going to give it huge amount of thoughts, it will have to be trained properly, i got my mums Dog today but we didn’t know we’d be getting her (i’d love to have that dog) and it was either get my mums dog or go to the dogs trust to have a look, so got mums dog but yeah, really thinking on it.

Don’t do it. It’s a huge responsibility.

well me and my friend would take turns and if we couldn’t cope we just give the dog back,

you are right though it is a huge responsibility

the biggest worry is its toilet needs

It’s not right to return a dog because you can’t take care of it. If you think it’s possible you won’t be able to do it then don’t get one. You wouldn’t return an adopted child, so don’t do it to a dog either. Having a dog is a huge responsibility and you need to know you can cope with it. If you can’t hold down a job I doubt you could properly care for a dog. Maybe you should consider getting a cat instead. It is still a big responsibility, but they are much more self-sufficient.

At the bus stop this morning a lady came along with two small dog and one old sheep dog the old sheep dog was smiling at me and wagging its tail and I thought I’d love a dog but I have too much going on to take good care that a dog would deserve

you can’t compare a child to a dog but i hear what you are saying, i am going to think long and hard about it

@asgoodasitgets what about your part time job…???
I am sure u are doing it…:alien:!!!

i do about two hours a week, i did two hours this morning and its voluntary but it makes me feel special like i’ve done something to help my community and just people in general,

my friend said she would take care of the dog if i couldn’t or if i was doing a job or something but its a bit of a gamble bc i would worry that it is too much responsibility for her, she says she can do it but i have my doubts, she said she would learn to pick up the crap as well, and i have a poop scoop here anyway.

i think it might be too much responsibility for me as well, a dog is like a full time job like a live-in carer or something, they need fed and cleaned and watered and walked and cuddled (the cuddled part is ok) lol

Not to mention the trips to the vet, the thingies for fleas and all the money that you don’t have to take care of a dog.

Not meant to discourage you, dogs are great company and probably would be great for you to get one, but maybe focus on working part time first. Get your life in order.

And @anon9798425 is right, don’t get one just to give it away after a few weeks.

i know i hear you and treebeard is right, but i thought there would be a trial period anyway but never mind. ,

my mum had to give her other dog to the dogstrust and its not good, i miss that dog like mad with its sticky up ears but at the time the dog was very hard to walk and because of her sight problems its more hassle than it was worth and she couldn’t cope, i kind of wish i had taken the dog but at the time i couldn’t have coped either with college and all, maybe my friend could have helped but i don’t think it would have worked.

My sister just got a dog her name is Sagan…but my sisters very functional…lots of work…Idk how she does it

I like Sagan though. Cute puppy

i’d probably get blamed for all the poop lying around despite having a vet nearby and other dogs

This is Sagan

Hard to get a good pic of her she’s a ball of energy

Innocent and friendly soul though

Lol alright

Cute anonymous dog

Maybe you can volunteer at a dog shelter then you can be around dogs all the time…and get a better feel for them and their responsibility too…if you have the time

I do not agree with you.

Lots of people who can not hold down a job take beautiful loving care of dogs.
Lots of people who can not hold down a job probably should have a dog and both the dog and the person would benefit from it.

Apparently a dog can also be perscribed by Dr as a “disability dog”.
A person who has difficulties in situations can get support from a trained dog.
Emotional support amoung other things.

Lots of people who can hold down a job might not care for their dog…
Lots of people who can hold down jobs abuse, neglect their dog and do not give it the care it should have.

Maybe one knows one self and how one would be with a dog…
If one was able to take the responsibility and give the care…

I had a dog when I was not working.
She was given to me to help me get out more and leave apartment.

I walked her three times a day even when I felt tortured inside I managed to take her for litle walk.
She was fed daily and had fresh water and was very very very loved and still is although she is dead now.

I used to go for bike rides with her sometimes where she would sit in the basket.
We sometimes went for outings and forest walks.

I would love:heart_eyes: to have a dog again.

I cant keep one where I am living but if I move elsewhere in the future then I would love to have a dog.

The standards of keeping dog are different in different counries n areas.
The laws and standards are much more strict in some countries.

I’m not saying you can’t take care of a dog unless you are able to work. I am just saying that it takes a lot of effort to care for a dog, and not being able to work at all might be an indication that you’re too ill to have a dog.

I still dont agree.

As said their are disability dogs that support disabled people.
and those that are not disabled but do not have work.

I think the question here is not either daydreamer works or not, but if he is able to support the costs of having a dog.

Being at home is good, because the dog wont feel lonely.
But not being able to hold the costs and giving the dog away again is painful for the dog.

I have some personal experience with this. I was too ill to care for our dog, so after we broke up my ex took our dog and now he takes care of her by himself. I’m pretty sure that, for me personally, working a part-time job is less stressful than having a dog. Again, not saying this is the case for absolutely everyone.
