Dog sitting/boarding

mulling my brains over whether to board a dog or not, i want to get into the business but i am worried bout the people and the travelling and everything really, i just wish i could get some reassurance about this somewhere, the agency has a phone number and i am thinking about phoning them and telling them what i am worried about.

Your on benefits. Here in the UK where you are you can earn up to £20 a week but you still have to tell them about it. You are taking the piss considering your claiming max rate benefits. If you want to work get a full time job.

Maybe do some research online first. It probably wouldn’t hurt to talk to someone over the phone.

Best of luck!

if you need advice about the actual job, I foster for a dog rescue which is similar, so I could definitely give you some tips, but it would be best if you talk about the job first with someone who has experience with local laws and such.

that would be great dremulf, i am worried about meeting with owners and the general getting to know a dog, i keep thinking about what if the dog isnt very nice and i have to tell the owners that i cant look after him and stuff

also if i need to transport the dog we havent got a proper vehicle for that but we figured the dog can sit on the seats at the back,

worried mostly about the owners and the responsibility of looking after there dog, what might happen, the organisation do insure us for anything which is good.

worried about pricing as well as i dont know what to charge really.

thanks @metime

and @seriouslydisturbed who cares about benefits, i can make £416 legitimately every month under permitted work rules so i will not be breaking the law.

The first rule of housing a dog for a short time is making sure they are a good fit, if the dog doesn’t get along, make sure the owners know it ASAP, because the laws in most places say if a dog bites and draws blood they have to be put down, and most dogs bite out of fear rather than aggression. The most dangerous animal in the world is the one that is mean, its the one who is afraid and feels trapped (not unlike us SZ suffers actually!)

Transport for most dogs is easy, they can ride in the back seat, but if you want to save yourself some hair issues, get a sheet or cheap blanket to put down over the seats

And for how much to charge? that would depend on the dog. you have to figure on expenses, food, transport, and regular care, then add what you charge for your services. If a dog requires meds for some reason, and you end up having to fill the script, you would have to charge the owners for that. I don’t have much experience in this area as my dogs are fostered and paid for by the rescue.

thanks for your help dremulf, i am glad someone knows about this stuff  i am a total amateur except looking after dogs most of my life and cats.

and @seriouslydisturbed i forgot to mention that things will be changing soon for the better i hope the universal credit has a higher limit on earnings for single people who get limited capability for work, looks like i could possibly earn as much as £647 a month which is more than it is now.

Sweet. Just ignore me @daydreamer I was in a grumpy mood when I made the post. Keep up the good work.

thanks @seriouslydisturbed, i change my mind a lot and i have given this much thought and i think i am just going to try and volunteer just now maybe do some phone duties and then i want to try and get training to become a psychiatric nurse, sounds mad but i am starting to think that i dont really care about the money i get from benefits and all the stigma attached to it, i just want out and my med is keeping me straight so i think i’ve got a chance, i’m going to ask my nurse about it anyway, take care.

I don’t see why you couldn’t train to be a psychiatric nurse. At my local hospital 2 of the staff I met were ex schizophrenia patients.

thats really cool, i’d like to try the psychiatric hospital but i think i’d prefer to be outwith that environment, i’m not really sure i just know i want to help people in need esp from mental torment, they might find some use for me somewhere lol

so i have a couple of dogs lined up for dog boarding, not booked yet but i’ve spoken to the owner by text and its all on as far as i know, two dogs on different dates for 2 days each at £24 so i’m looking forward to it, the first dog is a staffie and the second is a lab, looking forward to it i think but i may have undercut myself on the price  but its good experience for us anyway :dog:

i just bought some strong biodegradable bags and a poop scoop from ebay, i think i will need it if i am going to be looking after dogs lol
