The Exercise Thread!

I for one have been getting great results from behaving myself and adding exercise to my days. Especially since I’ve given up volunteering, I have found I need something regular to do to keep my mind busy and working on the body really helps with that too. I’ve gone from sleeping 10 hours a night to 8 hours or less simply adding decent, regular exercise.

So last few months I’ve added a really good rack/cable weights setup and slowly been building up more equipment to my arsenal. I need to add more cardio but I’m getting back into running and cycling so depending on weather I’ve been doing well with the weights.

Pretty excited as I get a bench delivered tomorrow so no more lifting off the floor! So for those who are just getting back into it…or those who want to add more to their physical and mental health…if your able of course…Lets hear what you’ve been up too!

Here’s the bench I should get tomorrow!

Thats pretty cool. I took a giant break from exercising until the other day. Went for a 20 minute jog in the streets and did some weight training with dumbbells. Also push ups, sit ups, squats and dumbbell pull up thingies. Planning on developing the habit again and getting fit. At my most unfit ove ever been in my life. I weigh 103 kgs. Im usually around 70-80kgs all my life until the last couple of years. Want to change that.

Where did you previously volunteer? Ive been trying to find decent work since the dsp seems outol of reach.

Yeah. I was 87 kgs till I hit risperdal. I’m now losing from 110 where I maxed out and decided enough was enough. It’s hard work. I like to eat and enjoy myself but enough is enough…

I volunteered for my cricket club in the city for 18 years. Learned how to prepare quality cricket turf wickets. Keep trying for the dsp. I got on it years ago. I had a good shrink and still do.

Thanks for creating this thread mate! We should use it to motivate each other!

I’ve been running everyday and started lifting weights again as of yesterday.

A combination of cardio and weight training makes you live longer.

Yeah i want to get on the dsp. Its extremely difficult to maintain work with my hectic anxiety and generally being overwhelmed by everything.
My pdoc and case worker think im too young at 29 and too high functioning. But maybe i could have an honest conversation with them next time and get them on board.

Mate…I’m with you! It’s so easy to start and you only gain from it. Mentally and physically. Lets start here and bring people along!

Talk about how hard it is to function with normals. I always had more sick days. More time off. More jobs. I suffered because I slept 10 hours a day and I got paranoia at work…Dsp is about function and why you need help out here. IT’s different as I’ve been on dsp for 20 years but Keep trying.

A while back I saw this bench for sale in Walmart that could be adjusted to all these different angles that you could focus on different muscles. It only cost like $40.00. I would have bought it myself, but there was no way we could fit both the bench and people’s groceries in the van. I wanted that bench, though. I could have sold it to a body builder for a handsome profit.

I need to get active. I was so active before hospitalisation and during psychosis. I put on 30 lbs after being medicated and becoming very lazy.

I was exercising a hour every day but saw no physical results.

Still overweight and same weight as before but my mood better.

Unfortunately I haven’t exercised last couple weeks because I got a cold and now that I’ve recovered I can’t get myself to exercise anymore.

Most I did was twenty minutes walk.

Otherwise I do spin , pump (weights) and sit ups and walking.

The politics of the cricket club got to me. I had to leave because I was not supported by the executive. Their loss!

Absolutely their loss. Im still in the throes of preparing myself for some type of volunteering.
Thanks for the explanation :grinning:

What would you peeps say is the best mode of exercise? Cardio? Weight training? I forget what this ones called, but the body weight resistance stuff? Combination?
I usually opt for jogging. But i did read recently that with weight training, you continue to burn around 150 calories while in rest after doing them. Unlike cardio.
