I think the fashion industry should do away with term “plus-size.” Besides creating low self-esteem and eating disorders, the term doesn’t make any sense. Also, most stores either don’t carry, or maybe have a limited selection, of plus-size clothing. At best, you’re politely told to shop at Lane Bryant.
What do you think of the term “plus-size?” Keep it? Get rid of it? Any thoughts on the fashion industry as a whole?
Plus sized clothes have a different fit. A size 16 is different than a “Woman’s” 16. The plus sized clothes have much larger thighs and butt proportionally. So i dont think getting rid of the label would be good. And i also think if the average woman is now overweight, we shouldnt pretend that isnt reality. America needs to massively rethink how the food is being made. The whole system is junk.
I don’t understand women’s clothing sizes. When i buy men’s jeans, the waist and inseam are stated in objective inches…36x30. But in women’s clothing, one brand’s size 16 is not the same fit as another brand’s size 16. It just seems so random! It’s just easier buying men’s clothes. And i don’t think it’s up to the clothing industry to decide who is “plus” sized (spoken as someone who used to have to shop exclusively at plus-size clothing stores).
The fashion industry exists to make women feel ashamed of themselves if they don’t look like an emaciated heroin addict who had a double mastectomy while three days from death by starvation because that is what they promote as the standard size now. Oh, and they’re supposed to drop $2K on makeup to paint Bozo the Clown’s face over the perfectly fine one nature gifted them with.
For the men… If you don’t look like Daniel Craig sauntering out of the ocean in 2007’s Casino Royale, well, you can’t really call yourself a man, can you? They’ve got supplements to fix that, of course.
I watch fashion shows on YouTube (I’m a masochist). With the exception of Ralph Lauren, the shows feature female models who look like (and maybe they do) they have anorexia. It’s bad enough for the average woman, but I feel sorry for young girls thinking they have to look like the models to be beautiful.
I buy men’s jeans too. The sizing is consistent. I noticed men’s levi’s 32" are equal to like a womens Levi’s 26". Brands are making the womens sizing have lower numbers because they think women will buy whatever comes with a smaller size on the tag. that is why its not consistent. I dont buy womens clothing at all.
maybe not but they need some name for the clothing that is made to different proportions. right now they use “Women’s” usually as the category for women with larger hips and thighs. and Misses are technically the clothes sized without extra large thighs and hips.
I just became a size 16 and was shocked at how hard it is to find clothes I actually like. I ended up spending a lot at Eileen Fisher just to get some simple, comfortable work outfits in neutral colors.
I don’t even bother with places like Marshall’s anymore. It’s basically whatever you can find that you dislike the least in their plus sizes.
That said, now that I’m unemployed I’m just buying loungewear at Walmart, which suits me just fine because I can usually find one or two things that I’m ok with wearing around the house and in town. I live in a real rural area.
Also, can we retire the term “plus size” already? It’s just size — no extra label needed!
There are also flatbread and deep dish pizzas. Women are also like pizza: No pizza is a bad pizza and if you get a good slice of any sized pie, the only proper response is to say thank you Lord.
