Sz the dumb disease

My pdoc practically told me sz makes ppl dumb. Yes there are exceptions, those high functioning but they still take a hit. Exculding presz mental illness and addictions!

I was the smartest in school, college and university before getting sz.University A’s in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biomechanics, cell biology, etc College 90+% in math, physics, organic chemistry (98%), etc I was invited for math competitions in college. I already posted some of my grades here. Now on meds and with sz I suck balls, my brain is rotting because I am not using it due to bad negative symptoms. Psychologist said I did excellent in her intellugence testing and said that I am wasting my intelligence by staying in bed.

I don’t care about intelligence anymore, I just want to live a normal lufe outside my bed. I keep dreaming about it.

I think you are right not to dwell on whether or not you took a mental hit post sz. There is absolutely zero you can do about it. I don’t think you are dumb, Aziz. And I also think there are a lot of smart people here. You need to focus on what you still have and not on what you may or may not have lost.

I feel dumb staying in bed 24/7.

Schizophrenia did not make me dumb. I think I developed schizophrenia as a result of being a genius woman who was not accepted by her peers. Did you know Einstein’s son had schizophrenia. There is a correlation between brilliance and madness but that is often disregarded. Most of what I say or believe gets censored now on this forum etc. so I really have no purpose to put in my 2 cents anyways.

I tried going off my medications for a few days. I relapsed on cigarettes then weed then other things. Schizophrenia plus getting high is dangerous. Schizophrenia on its own is a Gift IMO because I can see things differently and I can control it and do art. I think I can control it–or I thought i could–but I use other meds to induce mania like Topamax so I can clean my apartment. without the topamax crutch I couldnt have had the motivation to clean…

Psychiatry taught me that there’s a drug for everything but no cure for anything.

I took a huge cognitive hit after my two psychotic breaks in 2016.

I used to have a high IQ and excelled in Jeopardy.

This was during my pre SZA days.

Today I can’t even string a full sentence together.

Agree. There’s a world of difference between being dumb and just being out of practice.

The old you is still there Aziz..

I would stay on your medication. I tried to go off mine for a few days and all hell broke loose.

This is false. There are activities you can do alone that are intellectually stimulating, such as reading the newspaper and challenging yourself to watch and understand movies.

That’s a good point. You can try to do activities that will improve your function. I did not mean that you can’t. I just meant that if he took a hit, there was no way of changing what happened in the past.

This will be your unraveling @anon85745701
Don’t do it

@Wave

I can’t bear it any longer
Im treatment resistant anyway
Meds are making negative symptoms worse

you cant just stop them instantly that can cause seizures and rebound psychosis which can be worse than original illness…I started mine up again, I also have to use oxygen and a cpap at night for my health because its gotten pretty bad…I lost 50 pounds on topamax last week. when i stopped my meds I relapsed on cigarettes which caused weight gain…

I would follow ur doctors advicec not people on the internet…

Please consult your pdoc about this and if you still determined that you are going ahead, do it with their supervision so that you can stop if symptoms emerge while tapering down. We do not encourage going off meds here, but there is no way we can stop it. Just offer advice.

For most people, this is not an advisable course of action.

Yeah at the very least, work with your doctor.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO COME OFF YOUR MEDS ON YOUR OWN.
This will end up disastrously.

My depot injection is due tomorrow

Thanks for advice anyway but im sick of them

Anyway sorry @Aziz didn’t mean to hijack your post mate

Its not really just the meds causing negative and cognitive symptoms, I went off meds for 2yrs and I still had these symptoms to a significant degree. Its the sz. Idk if its brain damage or chemical or what.

I got a 93% on the test to be a Lab Scientist, but couldn’t take the ASCP exam needed for certification, because I used to skip class and didn’t think I could get an internship. There wasn’t internet then and I didn’t know about other ways to be certified. I just took a practice ASCP exam for Lab Scientist in chemistry and got 80%, 40 years after graduating. I would have been making at least $80,000 a year, if they would have let me take it, instead of living in poverty. Because I quit a couple places because of bad conditions.
