How to be smarter?

Before sz I was top of my class in college and university but socially I am dumb. I blame the sz. I lost my intelligence due to sz, school and books were my only strength and I lost them due to sz. I have nothing left. All i do is lay in bed most of the time.

I’m on the same boat. I used to study and I was looking forward going to the university.

Them bam! Psychosis!

Now I mostly lie on the couch or bed.

Yes, I’m dumb. I can’t calculate things in my mind anymore. Even if its easy calculations.

I don’t know how you’d become smarter though?

We are in the same boat Aziz.
I was very smart in my younger years just like you, but lost my intellectual capacity to meds, illness and insomnia.
I just want to add
That you should not give up hoping for better days, cause there may be a miracle waiting out in the horizon for you.

Just like you I was much smarter in my younger years speedy. The problem I’ve is that I’ve lost my inner voice. When I try to think there is nothing in my head.

Yes, I have the same issue. No inner voice. It’s only outside voices now. Sometimes I feel controlled by them.

But you still have a load to give your friends and fellow sufferer’s here. I feel that we are at the same wavelength.

Speedy you should know that psychosis can and often gets better in time.

I’ve had it for more than ten years now. I’m not keeping my hopes up. I’ll turn 41 soon. Even if I was cured what am I supposed to do? I’m too old going back to school.

I think it is more of a language merit problem and who you surround yourself with socially.
The more people challenge your beliefs and get you to think solutions for yourself, the better.
Of course motivation is key to everything, you don’t know you can run at 18+ Mph until a bear tries to chase you down.
Schizophrenia effects dopamine, and dopamine is the main driver for motivation in patterns.

I graduated from college #1 in my class and like you, really struggle intellectually now. I’m not sure what to do about it. My husband had a talk with me a couple days ago about how I need to not give up and I need to try to return to work. But I tried 2x recently and failed both times. I don’t know what I’ll do

Speedy if you only are 41 years old then you are a young Gentleman. You see after 46 my psychotic attacks got less often. You still have time don’t stop hoping for better times.

I also have no inner voice, (what I think of as my true conscious voice.) Just the outer voices that seem to reflect the stage my schizophrenia is in. I have been diagnosed for almost exactly 10 years, and I could only hear my inner voice around 3 times since the symptoms started.

I believe this does effect cognition, as I cannot guide myself in the most direct manner without my inner voice. More like playing guessing games without any clues.

I’m am similar……mental illnesses ruined my soccer career. I got social phobia, and I wasn’t even close to my potential out on the field……during my high school years. because I had anxiety on the field.

That’s really true what you tell and I can really relate to that.

Does anybody enjoy academic situations, even if you weren’t like you use to be. The reason why, you can still put yourself in these situations. You can challenge yourself?

Can’t, negative and cognitive symptoms

There is intelligent and then there is smart.
Intelligent is cognitive function, memory and specific uses, that usually allows one to excel in a given field.
Smart is practical sense, knowledge of how to learn effectively or conduct yourself, experience, profiling others (street smarts) and understanding investment of your time/money.
It is important to note that you can be intelligent and never fail at something. You have to fail and then learn from it to be smart.
