Supporting music artists

Should I buy CDs if I like an album enough? I have Tidal streaming and they pay the artists much more than other services, but I found out each stream gets the artist about 1 cent and I feel guilty. Perhaps if the band is less well known and I love their CD I will order the disc. I’ve ordered CDs on Amazon and wasn’t happy with their quality , where do you buy CDs?

Btw one of the dilemmas here is that I don’t have a lot of money.

Do you know about how much money they get with the CD’s?

After expenses and all that it can’t be much and its a one time payment.

I’d just stream the music…

Even if they don’t make much off a CD it is probably more than streaming…

Plus, nothing like owning a physical copy of your favorite music

Good point though

I’d get vinyl copies of my favorites and just stream the rest,

CDs are not great quality and are dying out.

Plus, I know a few small artist that are making more money than they ever did with streaming music,

They may not get more per play, but they get more plays because its easy to share the music with friends.

Their children won’t starve, and nobody will really care if you rip them.

Just watch YouTube and download the songs from there

I am an indie music artist and I know for a fact that indie musicians and composers don’t get paid anything at all for their songs when they are streamed. The vast, vast majority of artists and composers out there are pretty much making and producing their art for free to the public nowadays. And this is NOT fair to them because writing, recording, producing, distributing, and promoting music is NOT free. It costs a lot of money. And for zero return? How is that fair? It’s a losing business. And that’s why I quit writing and recording. There’s simply no money in music anymore.

I like to have a physical copy of a CD; I’m not one to stream. I suppose I’m behind the times.

When I really like an artist, I not only buy their CDs but, when I can afford to do so, I go to their shows, and also buy merch.

I should note that I’m referring to small-time artists here; I can’t afford to go to big-name artists’ concerts. I’ve never paid more than $25 admission.

I would feel guilty ripping off these small-time artists, since they are just regular guys trying to get by like anyone else, not millionaires.

Vinyl is the best. The last CD I bought was Metallica at a local store. But we have a thrift store nearby with good stuff sometimes so that could be your money saver.

@Nomad Have you ever heard of an old school metal band, Pentagram?

They’re pretty awesome. I’ve always wanted to post one of their songs on here. But the lyrics might be triggering for some.

(They’re old stuff is usually very dark, and speaks about a lot of occult type things).

:v:

I think I may have heard of them. I’ll look them up for a minute before I doze off

Cool!

Glad you liked it.

I listened to “Evil Seed” and “Forever My Queen”. I like the doom/sludge aspect .

Good night forum :zzz::love_you_gesture:
