Sugar challenge

I’m a buzzkill here but I love sugar in my tea. Also love my carbs.

My blood sugar is stable because I avoid fat. My tea uses skim milk.

What causes high blood sugar isn’t so much the carbs as it is the saturated fat intake. The saturated fat blocks the glucose uptake pathways in the muscles and forms “intermyocellular lipids” (intramuscular fat.) The more of that there is, the more insulin you will need to express to get the glucose past that. It’s the main cause of diet-related diabetes.

Without that fat you could consume a lot of fat-free carbs and have a balanced blood sugar level.

So, avoid saturated fat and avoid diabetes, effectively. The Dr. McDougall diet is predicated on this. It can actually heal diabetes as well since the pancreas is given a chance to heal due to underutilization.

But if you’re adamant on eating high fat meals then you’ll need to cut sugar and carbs to balance blood sugar.

I think there are different views on this…some say carbs are bad, some fat is bad, etc. I dont know what is true…I think scientists dont even know. I personally think neither are bad if they are natural (e.g. unprocessed meat, veggies, fruits, etc).

But i was living a life with lots of fastfood, processed food, refined sugar, caffein, coca cola, etc. I clearly was addicted to sugar and it gave me issues. Now im not really avoiding either fats or carbs…i just started to eat real food, regularly, with no added unnecessary nonsense, among which added sugar.

I also have problems with my gut and a medical specialist told me to avoid certain products (gluten, etc) and see what would happen. So i also skip bread etc for now.

For me it works wonders…I immediately felt bad, with gut issues, when i ate restaurant lunch (bread with lean meat and lots of mayo and extras).

I think there isnt really a one size fits all diet…i think staying with basic natural products is most important.

It’s true that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all diet, especially considering food sensitivities being all over the place sometimes.

Avoiding fast food / processed food is a good guideline though. Soda also.

I’m doing well but had a bit of a slip up where I ate some banana popsicles I found in the back of my freezer. Now that the temptation is gone (because I ate them :unamused:), I am back onboard with the sugar challenge.

I think so…

Thanks for the insight though. I will read more about it! At this moment i have less real bad fats (cookies and cakes and Turkish pizza etc) but relatively much fats still (e.g. meat, fish, full fat dairy). I will look into it.

Good! Slip ups happen. I was laughing about the “because i ate them”. Anyway, you dont have to worry about them now…they are gone. Hope you get through the craving phase…glad you joined us again.

Im doing better today and yesterday. I’ve added more variety to my diet and it made a difference. Horaai. Lol. Let’s see how this continues though that’s the interesting part.

How’s it going for you? Did you figure out what made you feel bad at the restaurant?

Hey! Happy you are doing better! Great you found something that worked.

I dont know…the lunch had sugar, bread, sauce with unknown ingredients, etc. I was also eating a huge bowl of dairy at home that day. Could be anything. I will visit a dietician soon (who is also a psychologist and haptotherapist! :)) to see how to make my diet better.

For the rest im well. For the first time in years i actually have the energy, overview and motivation to work in my household and do better planning. Im doing all sorts of chores that i should have done for ages. I do still have lows when i skip lunch.

Cravings for sugar are almost gone. Even when im hungry.

Uhoh. I said i was well, but i just had a moment of crashing…im hungry, unwell, unconcentrated and dizzy. I ate only a tiny and late lunch. I quickly had some food and drink and hope it passes quickly.

You’ve got this Bvf… Sometimes at least is gonna be challenging. But you’ll pull through

I think it will be challenging for me for a while if not for life. I overate today but it was on relatively healthy stuff.

At least it wasn’t a binge.

I decided I don’t wanna be 55kg anymore maybe 60 kg cos I take in quite a fair amount of protein and so I don’t want my kidneys to be overworked with excretion of protein biproducts. Maybe even 65 kg is fine for me well see

You too will get through. Im sure it gets easier when it becomes a new habit.

I also overeat sometimes now…I think if we overeat on healthy stuff in this sugar withdrawal phase it is not too bad. Cant do all at once.

After eating i was okay again!

As long as you are healthy and feeling fit i think a few kg more arent bad.

I mainly want a flatter belly because a big belly is unhealthy. And just to feel good.

Yes I’m scared because big bellies increase your risk of dementia which I really fear. Amongst other diseases.
That’s good you felt better again after eating.

How is dieting going?

Im not feeling great (pms), but still no sugar. I did eat a bit of bread because i needed to for a test. Im discovering recipes that son enjoys (sugarfree, glutenfree buckwheat pancakes with strawberries today, vegetable “penne” with fish, tomato sauce and basil, grapefruit as a snack) and new comfort foods (apple with 100% peanut butter, porridge, hot chocolate with pure cocoa and oat milk). It is kind of fun to try.

Im especially proud to have 3 meals a day on regular times and nothing from take away. I always failed at that.
