Stressing about School

I am currently attending college at the University of Minnesota and the semester is just starting. However, I feel hopeless taking 15 credits because of the severe lack of motivation I get from this illness. The best I can do is take it one day at a time. But I can’t even get my personal hygiene right. So I don’t know how I can handle multivariable calculus, python computer science, online microeconomics, and an online mapping class that is supposed to be easy. It helps to have 2 online classes so I have less classes to attend physically, but I think things are just going to pile up on me and I won’t be able to keep up. I wish I would have just taken a year off to work on my recovery. Last semester I only took 2 classes. I got an A- in Linear Algebra and Differential Equations and a B in a Rock N Roll class. But that was a reduced load and it was easy. Now I’m supposed to just pretend I have enough motivation to do well with a full load like a regular person.

That was really smart to take a smaller class load last semester. GREAT JOB on your grades! That’s awesome!

You don’t know you can’t do it until you try. Start the semester, and if you need to drop a class or two, withdraw and try again later.

You sound very smart! I know how hard it is to do school with this illness! Explain your situation to professors as needed.

Don’t give up!

If you are having trouble with personal hygiene maybe 15 credits is too much. I took 4 classes last semester (12 credit hours). I am taking 4 classes this semester (13 credit hours). My first semester back I only took 2 classes! Just take it easy and work your way up. You can do it half of it is just showing up.

Eventually something snaps and you get cracking on with it. I was extremely psychotic and wrote two 15k word dissertations in my final year.

It wasn’t easy, but somehow i managed to get past all the doubt and do it. You can too. Just keep going. If you give up now you will only regret it later.

Just think what doing this now can do for you later. Once you get a decent job, you will find that you no longer have to prove yourself in the same way as studying, and you can get by with less stress. You just need to get through this now to get the benefits later.

Good luck
