How long does it take to get SSDI disability insurance once you’ve applied? I’ve heard they deny the claim in the initial phase then tend to approve it once you’ve appealed it?

I got approved and didn’t ha e to appeal.
Life pro tip:
-have someone smart and non psychotic help you with the paperwork.

thanks man, I actually did have an attorney handle the paperwork. However, my pdoc and lawyers both said I’ll probably get it after the appeal, that’s how its been in their experience. not sure why?

Yeah, I’ve heard that appealing is common but I know that sometimes people are approved right away (I worked in an office where we applied for disability for homeless). I think it can really depend. I know someone who was granted disability but had to go through the appeals process for at least six months? I really don’t know why they make people go through the appeal process so frequently – want to make sure you’re serious?
I honestly dont remember how many months it too me to get approved I was so out of it. It does take several months though. I was approved the first time. It helps to get involuntarily hospitalized for a few months. I believe ssa is more likely to approve when that happens.
For me, I was approved 3 months after I applied the first time. I didn’t need to go to a hearing or anything. But my brother in law took a year and a half.
It took two to three months for me to get approved. Mother petitioned a court to have me involuntarily committed to the State Hospital. I chose not to fight it, and told my Public Defender I would go if they wanted me to. I was homeless at the time.
I got approved first try. About 2 months after I applied. Had to wait a few months after that before I started getting checks, though, because I hadn’t been unemployed for the full 6 months yet. My doctor had me apply as soon as it was obvious I was psychotic again.
I have negative symptoms and got it on the first try with a lawyer, don’t worry if you need to appeal. My wishes are for your well being.
I got SSI after the first try but that’s different. My dad who had sza like me took him 12 years.
I was on state disability when I applied for SSDI and was approved within a few months.
