Experiences With Disability

I applied for disability during my hospitalization in August of last year. I was really sick then and had to spend eleven days in the hospital. My psychosis lifted after a month, and for that reason, for now, my diagnosis is schizophreniform. I don’t know how qualified I am for disability now; my application is still pending. I’ve been out of work since my hospitalization. When I was working I excelled at my job (not to brag, I just had a lot of manic energy when I wasn’t dead tired). I live in Virginia if that’s pertinent information. Just curious about others’ experiences regarding disability, mainly how long the process took/is taking. Thanks for reading!

I got SSI in about 5 months on my first try. I just filled out some paperwork, and my dad did the rest. Wish I could share more details, but that’s all I know of the process. Good luck to you. I live in Ohio

So what Zeke did and have a family member help you out with the paperwork. I got denied on my first try because I tried to do everything on my own.

My second attempt I had a family member help me out with the paper work (which can be very confusing) and I got approved. I’m sza but I was approved under ‘psychosis NOS’

I got accepted right away, within a couple of months but that’s because my Case was well documented with my psychiatrist and therapist.
Plus I had a disability lawyer help me.

My disability took three years. I had a lawyer. But when I finally got paid I got 20 thousand. I had to pay back rent though for all that time though.

Mine took about 10 or 11 months. I lived on welfare and went thru hell. Except for last 6 months before I got disability I moved in with my mom and stepdad 6 months before I got disability

I got SSI in about five or six months after someone asked me questions and filled out the paperwork for me online. I was in a CBHH psychiatric hospital on a commitment.
