I just met with my disability lawyer

He said I have a good case with all my hospitalizations and years of therapy. So I’m hopeful. But I know it can take a long time. This is the first appeal and he said it averages two years after this to get approved, if you do.
How long did it take you? With my track record I’ll probably need the hospital again before they decide so that might speed it up a bit.

It took me 3 months to get approved. I never had to appeal.

Are you maybe older than me? I’m 26 and have a college degree so I know that’s making it harder

Took my case two years almost, and I got approved the first time, no denials or appeals. No lawyer either. And it was before I had sza! All I had at the time was bipolar 2. I’m lucky I got it, now I actually need it (sza is so much worse).

Not that I didn’t need it before, but I was less disabled then than now for sure.

My disability was granted in 4 months and is based on the bipolar diagnosis. I’ve since been diagnosed Sza.

I was 37 with a college degree and I got it in 3 months. Don’t worry about your age or education. If you’re truly disabled and can’t work then you’ll get it.

I also have a part time job and I literally canwork, but it makes me sick. I’ve landed in the hospital a lot over work becoming too stressful. So I have to explain that I’m working to not be homeless but it’s not good for me at all.

My lawyer kinda frightened me a bit, but I think he just didn’t want to put in work for someone who didn’t need the help.

I’m glad I had it done though, my mom works a demanding job but it doesn’t pay great so missing time is really hard, so at the end of the day the cost was worth it.

I got it in 2 months but I just got out of a hospitalization and made sure to do no work or school. It’s really important not to work. I planned to work after I got disability. Don’t work right now unless you plan to work full time and not need disability.

I wish I could. I dont have any supports so I have to work to afford rent. I barely make it by and I have a roommate

If you’re serious about disability, I would suggest moving in with parents or living in a shelter or taking out a loan. A shelter can expidite you for low income housing, so it’s not that bad. The first time I applied, I got denied because I was working. You probably also need a lawyer and case manager. It is really up to you what you want to do, but if I were in your shoes I would do what I had to if I seriously needed disability, or just keep on working and support yourself till you get another hospitalization. Idk, it is up to you what you want to do. Just letting you know it will be hard to get disability if you work.

It took about 3 months. A disability lawyer came to see me when I was hospitalized and homeless. He asked me if I would like to try and get disability. I said sure, and signed his paperwork. He applied for disability for me. There were no appeals.
