Hey guys I wanted to know if alot of schizos get approved disability after rounds of appeals or on first try
And what are the main reasons many don’t get approved at all even after rounds of appeal and is it common to get denied after all appeals and trying?
If you’re referring to the USA, it’s always been difficult to get approved. People often use an attorney who takes a portion of the initial back payment as compensation. I would say a small portion of people get approved. I had to appeal several times for mine, and once during the process they actually LOST all my paperwork. So I had to do it again. That was fun! I ultimately qualified though.
The appeal process works though. It’s how I got my benefits. Just keep trying.
EDIT: Took me 3 years from application to approval
It took me 7 years to get fully approved for disability this year and I’ve been disabled since 2014.
I was approved with the initial application, but i had already had multiple hospitalizations as a juvenile and then some as an adult. I did not need to appeal.
I was denied the first time I applied, then reapplied like two years later and got SSDI kinda quickly the second go-around.
Right now I am in the process of being reviewed in order to keep my disability benefits.
It’s nerve-wracking as hell, to say the least.
I got approved the first try without a lawyer.
I often feel the government is watching me everywhere because they don’t want me to get disability anymore. I’ve been on it for almost 20 years. Reviews are stressful. I don’t get them often though thankfully.
I’m in the UK. With a sz dx I was turned away around 4 times. 5th time when I applied it was shortly after having an episode. I got standard.
It gets easier if you have a psychiatrist and therapist.
Also it helps if you have a history of taking medication.
Proper documentation through your doctors is vital.
Having a good lawyer is also helpful
I got approved on the first try because of these
I wish you the best luck
I heard everyone gets turned down the first time in the USA. I got back pay of 7,000. I spent four thousand on drinking and eating out. My mom got me to buy a Volvo with the remaining $3000. But it was a lemon! I moved back in with Mom for a few years. I live in my own now and get rental assistance and about a grand a month for food and bills. I don’t know if I’ll work again. It’s been thirty years since I worked. I have some back problems now and I’m thinking of doing exercises for it. I’m taking a walk every day. I practice guitar and mandolin every day and read a little, watch TV and social media but I have insight I’m not in my right mind. What actually qualifies me for disability? I am s highly functional psychotic.
In Belgium it is relatively easy to get benefits with schizophrenia. It took about 6 weeks to process. I’m sorry for the American way of dealing with disability benefits.
I got my disability the first time I applied. I think its because I had a good work history.
I got accepted first application, I guess I’m lucky. I didn’t apply until I’d had the illness for a while
I was approved with my first application. I didn’t know anything about disability. Someone associated with where I worked arranged it.
