Social Security disability ?'s

Few ?'s for Anyone who recently went on disability for sz/sza
how long did the process take?
were you first denied? How many times denied?
how did you get approved? How long were you out of work before you applied?
any other tips or pertinent info or experiences.
all help is welcomed. Thx in advance

is USa the only place that has this?

It took me three months. I got approved the first time but i had an arrest record from being baker acted and distuption of peace and a work record that showed i tried to go back to work and only made it a short time at both places.

It took me four months on my first try, I applied online the day I quit my job and sent them all of my medical records.

Make sure u keep all of ur medical records from hospitals because u will need them when applying

Did you have to use a lawyer or did you apply on your own?

I didn’t use a lawyer and i was accepted within a few months… It was 20 years ago too tho

I too, was accepted in 3 months, applied by phone, no lawyer. Had been seeing a pdoc for about 4 years before I finally had to quit working, so all my hospitalizations were well documented in my medical records, and they sent SSA a copy, which made it pretty simple.

Why did you quit your job?

Too much stress was causing me to have delusions and the voices were getting really bad

Yeah thats why I quit my last job. Well I kept hearing my thoughts outloud and I knew everyone else could hear my thoughts too. Accompanied by some higher power that knows everything telling me that I’m just a meth head and I’m a burn out and I don’t think like everyone else. I heard it and I thought everyone else heard it too. I still to this day think people hear this stuff. Its hard for me to be around people. A bunch of people.

Yea I was hearing voices from my co workers and I thought they could hear my thoughts, I couldn’t tell if it was real or not at the time.

They routinely turn you down on your first request. Then, if you get a lawyer, there is a good chance you will get it on the second try. The lawyer will take away the back pay you got. They give you back pay for the time after you first asked for ssdi to the time you get it. So, if there was ten months between the first time you applied and when you were actually awarded ssdi, you would get back pay for that ten months, but your lawyer would take that.

I applied for disability pension twice and it was turned down on both occasions.

I truly felt I should of been given it.
It put a lot of stress and worry on me.

I would of worked part time anyway by choice.
Its just the stress and pressure from cl and employment agencies would of been taken away.

I found my first job on me own  .
It was a period where I was not required to look for work for one year but I looked anyway and found one of the Agencies I work for now.

I am now on centre link payments and work part time.
I am hoping to get enough hours of work to get away from centrelink.
But am grateful for the work I have and hope I get to keep it.
I want to work about 15 hours a week.

I also got approved in three months, first time with no lawyer. I had just quit a job. Just make sure you tell them where your medical records are. They will get copies. With SSDI you don’t get benefits the first five months though so be sure to date your disability when it began and not just the date you apply.

I was out of work a year and thru 4 hospitalizations. I applied, they got all the paperwork themselves. Some of my drs refused to send in files because they sent me letters telling me so. I go the ssdi 4 months later. Then a year after that I had an actual face to face review already.

I applied twice so far. They rejected me both times because they said that I didn’t work enough to pull money out of the system. Also that apparently I had too much money buy like a couple hundred so I couldn’t get it. I wonder if I applied in the wrong place or something because for everyone else it seems to be a simple process. I know stuff like this is supposed to help sz people but whenever I try any government program like this or unemployment I get nothing.

Lawyers can only charge 25% of your back pay, up to $6000.

I stand corrected.

I was accepted after 3 months. Just remember that the SSA uses something called the Blue Book. If you meet that criteria then you will get benefits. Here is a link https://goo.gl/KV8TBL

Remember, all they care about is that you meet the criteria.

Good luck!
