Split-. The movie

Have you seen the trailer for this? I went and saw Arrival today (great movie, do recommend) and they played this trailer before it. It’s about a guy with DID. Seems like a horror movie. Just makes me worry that in an already stigmatized world it will only make things worse for everyone with mental illness.

What are your opinions? Do you think it will make things worse for all of us?

I think there playing on people’s established fears of mental illness. The Voices did the same thing but for schizophrenia and I haven’t noticed any changes on how people treat me. At the end of the day it’s just a movie and as much as we want to believe that they change how we see the thing they don’t. Otherwise everyone would be complete optimist. .

I saw Arrival today as well! Great movie. I also saw the Trailer for Split. I thought it looked good. It’s just a movie. The DID thing makes for a good plot. Unfortunately, mental illness is often tied into a psychotic thriller. The bad person is always ‘psycho’ or ‘crazy’. I’m over it, though. To me, like I said, it’s just a movie. I’ll probably go see it when it comes out. I also want to see that one where everyone goes to sleep for 120 years and 2 people (one being Jennifer Lawrence) wake up 90 years early and they are all alone on the spaceship. I forgot the name but I want to see it. A few good flicks are coming out.

I am torn on this because it looks like a good movie, but I can’t help but get a tiny bit offended at it. Mainly because when I had my first psychotic break I felt like I had Multiple Personality Disorder. They call it something else now, but I can’t remember what.

That movie really pisses me off. I can’t believe James McAvoy would sign onto something that demonizes folks with mental illness. It didn’t even look like they actually got DID right at all! Movies like that make things worse for all of us.

Ugh…I haven’t seen the trailer or anything but I agree w you I don’t like when they make movies that intend to capitalize on and make a spectacle of mental illness. And if it’s a horror film…ugh…people are gonna start thinking everyone w DID is a murderer or something.

Sybil was bad enough. Her story was debunked you know? Her therapist pressured her into saying she had all those personalities.

lol I had just now accidentally went on youtube through my Opera browser (which doesn’t have AdBlock.) happened to see a commercial about that movie. I’m not a fan of it. but then again, I’m not a fan of movies in general.

Is that what that movie is about? Kinda figured from it’s title.
I’ve been labeled DID, wouldn’t want to try to make a movie out of it but isn’t that what Hollyweed is all about?

May I ask how many other identities you have? and do any of them ever come on here?
