Someone finding my wifi password

Almost posted this in Unusual Beliefs but it seems real and it’s hard to find it as a coincidence. On suspicion of intrusion I just changed my 64 character wifi password and it immediately got 40% better broadband. A 55 min download became a 30 min download. I also saw a tall white van which looked like could have been a surveillance van. And I’m compelled to link it to the scammers who have been calling.

Is it possible, is there a way for someone outside to somehow brute force an elaborate wifi password?

I’m just a layman, but there are programs out there that can. I’m not sure how ‘elaborate’ your password is, but if it’s a good one, you should be fine. It sounds good enough – 64 chars.

I’m sure there’s other entry points though. Could be a lot of ways if they’re good or know what they’re doing.

Sounds like paranoia though. I wouldn’t like it to a scammer though. Could be just a plumber lol.

I was convince things were real too and got paranoid. If there’s a will there’s a way, I guess. I always try to live with integrity even though I come off crazy lol.

If you’re using WEP then that can be hacked into quite easily. If you’re using WPA then it’s impossible.

Google wep and wpa to adjust your wifi settings.

Thanks for responding fast. Idk if it could be paranoia on my part AND that changing a password does that reasons I don’t know. I’m always guessing all the time. Since a program can do it I’ll be scrambling that password every time and then I’m going to google programs to decipher unknown passwords for a read.

Yes, I’m using WPA. But the download estimate on Steam improving by so much tells theres an intruder.

I never took a computer science class, but it’s just probability. A complex password like a phrase with some special characters would take really long to crack like the age of the universe…My mind goes places. Sometimes, I feel I over think things like in high school, I watched hacking videos and people would just hack for fun and do social engineering and stuff. I even heard stuff about picking up keyboard sounds from outside the house at hacking conventions. I don’t know.

You can find out who is on the network I guess. I forgot how but google knows…can tell you real quick.

I used to play on fedora linux and mess with my firewall settings/ports and realized even with a vpn there’s no such thing as true/private/cosmic security. I mean it said gigabytes of firewall logs every minute like it came off as a brute force attack. Our wifi is weak, but I probably had a vpn. Maybe I messed up and stuff. But I read news articles about linux being vulnerable and even possibly vpns. I don’t know. I’m just an amateur.

I kept seeing ‘bonjour’ apple services sending stuff to my firewall on the network. Weird stuff. I had no clue lol.

I have mac authentication turned on to allow 3 devices. Don’t know if it works, I only did it for moar security.

And if you’re using WPA then it’s unlikely that you were hacked. Not impossible but pretty unlikely.

WPA2 - PSK, to me its super complicated security stuff. I’ll have to mark this case as another unknown.

Thanks, guys.

I saw my file history change. Could be memory loss and delusions though. My computer would make noises, freeze, and slow down due to firewall i think. Not sure lol.

My smartphone keeps trying to connect wifi to FBI Surveillance Van. I don’t know what that is about. I just keep turning the wifi off, and it keeps turning on by itself.

I thought my step-dad was a super evil computer genius, but it was just really bad schizophrenia. I was really psychotic back then. He’s actually a really, really nice guy. It’s just psychosis and paranoia and delusions turning my world upside down. It really messed with me.

This was back in 2015/2016 I think. My worst years of schizophrenia.

I’ve seen that too. It seems to be a trend prank to name their wifi “fbi surveillance van” in order to scare ppl.

My schizophrenia was in 2016 when I backstabbed a group of friends. I still don’t know if they were trolling.

The last time I owed a computer was the old dialup days. Unmedicated I used to constantly think someone was monitoring/hacking me. I finally got rid of the computer.

I’ve seen it too in my years. I told my family and even my doctor and it seems anyone can prank people and do stuff like that. Like change a wifi name to ‘big tits’ or something lol. I have weird wifi names too in the area like ‘hidden network’ which I just scares me sometimes. Who would do that?

I also notice I pick up wifi that’s not in order like the closest one will be at the bottom and stuff and it shifts around and then some seemed fixed points. I don’t know. I know I’m reading too much. I think it’s gangstalkers and harassment. I even seen names pop up that I googled or heard about, which is strange.

I’ve seen UFOs and aliens and even experimental drones and crafts over the years. I’m glad it’s a prank. People suck. I can hear people talk about my schizophrenia and I pick up conversations through the wall like a mutant or psychic I think. I might have also read minds in a past life with other life and had my mind read many times…

Seen green fire in the sky which is a astronomical phenomenon too. It spooked me.

This stuff scares me for years. I’m still trying to recover. I’m traumatized.

I think pranks like that should carry hefty fines and jail time.

I think people know I got some schizophrenia going on – I never change my clothes and I smoke cigs and don’t work. I think some of the neighbors talk about me and hate me. I just wanna move. It was worse by my dad’s place. I really enjoy my family.

Try using Fast.com as it will give you a more accurate reading on your speed.

Personally I think it is possible that someone had your previous password if it was a default password or if it was really simple. But it could also be that you just had other devices in your home hogging bandwidth.

I think the white van part is just paranoia.

My smartphone and cellular data don’t seem to bother me, but I’m on medication now. The wifi perturbs though.

Oh and some routers reset after you change the settings - which can flush the system out. I have issues sometimes where resetting my ethernet powerline after a few months of use seems to make it way faster.
