Side Effects of Risperdal?

I recently began taking Risperdal and have experienced concerning side-effects. More often when resting or attempting to sleep, severe panic attacks, chest pain & tightness, and a rapid heart rate occur. Due to worsening severity, I became panicked and discontinued use. It has been three days since I stopped taking the medication, and I haven’t slept since. All the previous symptoms remain. I’m posting here to see if anyone has had a similar experience, or knows if and when these symptoms will end?

Were you stable when you started it? You could just be adjusting back to reality. I would say don’t ever stop an ap cold turkey. I would continue to take your recommended dose by doctor.

Please consult with your doctor.
Stopping an AP cold turkey is downright dangerous.

Yes risperidone can cause rapid heart rate.
Please talk it over with your doctor.

When I used to take risperidone by itself, I would get racing heart, panic attacks and I couldn’t breathe. For some people it’s evil stuff.

I forgot to add. The side effects were so bad the doctor prescribed small dose of abilify (Aripiprazole), and now I have absolutely no side effects. It’s great!

About half an hour.

I’m really glad I don’t experience this; Seroquel made me feel like that though. Really congested, heart pounding, over sleeping, hungry.

The side effects I used to get from Risperdal pills were akithesia, dry mouth, leaky breasts, lack of libido, and constipation. Now, I’m on the shots and I get akithesia, dry mouth, constipation, lack of libido, decreased creativity and really poor memory.

Those all are symptoms associated w anxiety/panic attacks. A lot of times anxiety is a transient symptom with psych meds meaning it doesn’t last. However I have definitely stopped taking meds that caused severe reactions like that in me when I had just started them at the lowest dose so it’s up to you if you want to stick with it or find a diff med really.

I didn’t get any of that on Risperidone it was very chill. I gained 10 lbs a month on it, it reduced my concentration/attention span but not as bad as other APs I’d tried, it made it almost completely impossible to orgasm & it gave me hyperprolactenemia so I had to quit or else get breast cancer.

I don’t get panic attacks, as a rule. Those are all side effects of the medications I take.
