Should there be an exclusive forum for those with the sz/sz-a diagnosis?

Lets put it to the vote. No need to reply as discussion covered by thread Malvok started.

Only a small number of people have so far voted but early indications seem to show that people are in favour of such a forum.

Well its funny… I mean… I’d include bipolar w/ psychosis…

Or make it a forum for people with psychosis… Mainly the hallucinations…

Negative symptoms can go elsewhere…

Perhaps.

Psychosis positive symptoms
Psychosis negative symptoms

And then…

Bipolar schmucks who need to quit abusing substances… Hah couldn’t resist. Maybe just make that whole section redirect to crazyboards.org or whatever similar site is still up out there.

(I voted yes btw)

I’m diagnosed with schizophrenia…delusions of reference and delusions of persecution.

And I believe the Boards are fine just the way they are. No need to change everything just to satisfy a couple of crankypants posters.

Looks like the ‘no’ camp is now in the lead.

i said no, I enjoy everyone’s opinions on here. Some of the people without sz or sza have helped me through a lot of problems. They offer valuable insight.

I voted no… I was thinking of psychoticteen… who wasn’t diagnosed with Sz or Sz-a specifically… but still helped and got help…

If it is exclusive… well the sheer fact that there is a family section here means… it won’t be this forum…

people might have to look for some other forum if they want to be exclusive

I like the inclusive… so I’m pretty content with how this forum is now.

I voted no. Would feel cruel to exclude people

The behind the scenes plan is to separate Family/Friends/Caregivers out of this site and give them their own specific site where their support threads won’t get torpedoed by Diagnosed. This makes sense. All I’m asking is that actual schizophrenics, posting at schizophrenia.com, are given the same consideration as Family members.

You see the double standard?

I kind of like the idea of giving Family/Friends/Caregivers their own space. My mom had wanted to join the site to learn more about SZ, but I told her I would feel uncomfortable. I just wanted to have my own space where I could say what I wanted.

I think it’s a good idea.

By those comments are you advocating for a separate sz/sz-a only site? In which case how could you definitely prove all people joining that site were sz/sz-a. Truth is you’d be relying on people being above board. Whilst most will openly declare that they are not sz/sz-a is it always the case?

On another point. I know Malvok’s position on who would be welcome on this exclusive forum but am not sure of yours. Malvok would welcome those past and present who have held the diagnosis. Given the fluidity of diagnosis what would your position be on someone who joined as having a sz/sz-a dx only for the diagnosis to change at a later point? Would the person then be expected to forgo the support they were getting from that forum in your opinion?

  1. I’m advocating for a sz/a area within this site.
  2. It would be open to those with a past/present DX. Not to those who have never had the DX.
  3. 12 Step programs have been trusting people to be above board about their health issues since 1935. It has worked out well so far. If people say they have the DX they’re in.
  4. There are people with sz/a who have been coming to this community for support for the better part of two decades. We are upset because it has become unrecognizable to us. We’re asking for our corner back within the larger community.

I’ve already said I’m okay with past/present DX. How many times you want me to repeat this?

I had not seen you previously say this. Hence my need for clarification. Thanks for at last making your position clear.

I think that the forum works ok, as I have understood the Diagnosed section of the forum is for communicating psz/sz related matters. Just my thoughts, no new site or section/forum is needed, people could post less on the Lounge area of this sz forum. We do not seem to have so many people here on the forum anyway which would indicate that no new forum is needed.

I think both sides have valid points, but the voting is showing 2 to 1 against the changes.

  1. The voting includes non sz/a.
  2. The only vote that counts is @SzAdmin. Time to step up and support the people mentioned in the site’s domain name. People will be upset no matter what he does, but perhaps it’s possible to honour the site’s original mission: schizophrenia support.

The person paying the bills doesn’t think so. He wants to separate out the Family area.

I have no doubt that is true. However even if you reduced the no vote by 16%(number of non sz/sz-a here according to a previous poll) you still get the no vote outnumbering the yes vote.
