Should there be an exclusive forum for those with the sz/sz-a diagnosis?

I’m not in favour of this. I don’t know what has happened but I think we need to integrate not seperate.

Agree .@SzAdmin is on a hiding to nothing with this one. In the end for those advocating an exclusive forum for sz/sz-a would the failure to implement such a forum really justify leaving and losing the support available here?
Of course there is always the option to set up a separate set of forums but from what I have seen alternatives to sz.com have fairly quickly crashed and burnt.

I have long remained undecided on this, just couldn’t make up my mind about it. Now I’m thinking an additional category poses no harm. If there were to remain a general area to discuss all kinds of symptoms - which is what the diagnosed area is currently - a specific area for SZ/SZA does not exclude anyone from doing what they’re doing now. It would be a truly additional category, not so much replacing anything, but more like a private area for the ones apparently in need. I do not see harm in such a change. The vote is meaningless to me. Notice that democratic procedures ought not to result in the tyranny of the majority.

I like the little profile headers on our profile page where we can put our diagnoses for all forum to read. I don’t like that I can’t see if someone on here is/isnot sz, a little hint would be nice. Some self-disclosure I think is required for this forum, especially if peeps decide to let anyone in.

I’m kind of new to posting but I’ve been reading in silence since 2011 or earlier.

You Guys are awesome, was waiting to graduate from university to join, finally did, finally joined! whatever you guys decide I accept, I’d just like to know if I’m talking to a fellow sz or not.

YES. Either he steps up or long time members are stepping out.

Edit: We’re asking for a spot where we can return to the original mission of those with sz/a supporting those with sz/a. We’re sick to death of being bipolarpartyplace.com these days. The mission this site launched with a couple of decades ago is what we’d like back…

It is OTT to suggest that there is a “tyranny of the majority” taking place in this instance. Forum opinion seems to be against such a move and I very much doubt it’s because those voting no are “tyrants”.
One thing I hope is that this issue doesn’t cause those pushing for a separate forum to leave and a fracturing of sz.com.

It’ll just end up being like an area for smokers anyways…

And the non-smokers will join the smokers, because that’s where all of the gossip and fun occurs.

How many of such posts are there really, and aren’t they almost exclusively confined to “lounge”?

It is a common expression in thinking about democratic procedures to point out that if any action that has a majority of votes would be executed just like that, then minorities would be left unprotected. I think this is typically prevented in most states by granting constitutional rights. Not intended to call names or anything like that. Tyranny here does not so much refer to any individual voter, it is rather the procedure that it applies to.

Not if moderated forcefully like the Family section is.

curious, as a schiz-affective (paranoid type) I have overlap across mania, depression and episodes of schizophrenia…is this not the place to mention those symptoms? Should I just weed out every reference to ptsd, anxiety and depression that I have?

Also, what was the site like back in the day?

Not if they affect your ability to manage your sz/a and I would certainly imagine that they do. My autism complicates my SZ.

oh okay! good, cuz i always get ptsd whenever I watch news on national surveillance policies and stuff, so I am glad I can still mention that!

How would a minority of those wanting a separate forum be unprotected?

Guaranteeing that is a very strong possibility.

So if the minority don’t get what they want they’ll seek to fracture the forum. Seems to me they are intent on placing @SzAdmin in an impossible position.
They on one hand seek to restore the purity of the forum but on the other seem to be set on destroying the forum if they don’t get their own way.

Did you get a chance to check out SMF? I prefer it over phpBB, VBulletin, and Discourse.

It’s not just the party posts. I’ve been supporting a certain member because @SzAdmin feels many of that member’s posts have value. I have decided I’m no longer supporting that opinion. How about you, @Firemonkey? Would you like to have a forum where no one can shove a Therapy Book in your face? I’d like to have a forum where I can share without that issue.

SMF is good but my own personal preference has always been for VBulletin.

I don’t like paying $250 for forum software when there are equally capable free alternatives.
