HF SZ support site

I’m discovering over and over that the support I need as a higher-functioning med-compliant SZ dealing with ongoing psychosis is a lot different from what those on the lower end of the SZ spectrum require or can even tolerate discussing. Would there be interest in a separate support community for those of us who are high-functioning SZ?

Features would be:

  • Running Discourse software like here
  • Ability to discuss taboo topics that are too triggering here
  • Reduced moderation (everyone gets treated like adults)
  • Membership limited to those who are in school or working
  • Advertising free

Thoughts? Discussion?

@shutterbug

Yes, I would be interested.

I would even make a donation/subscription if it’s like you describe.

I think it’s not as clear cut as low functioning vs high functioning as judged by being in work/education . Many would fall between those 2 stools, including me.
I don’t think I’m overly low functioning but as someone not in school or working I would fail your litmus test.

Having said that I think there is a case for a forum for the more functional members whether they are in school/working or not.

If you do set up another forum I wish you success with it.

I would suggest a by invitation access for those who are considered more than low functioning but not necessarily in employment/school .

I wish you luck with it also.

Lower functioning should not be treated as adults aswell???

Only those who work or study…what about volunteer workers?

I think it can be taken as a insult to those that are considered low functioning here.

Some are even highly educated but can not work.

I wish you well with opening such a forum that may make gaps and I find it offensive and belittling to those more low functioning.

Surely low functioning schizos should be treated as adults and respected for who they are also.

I find this a bit insulting and belittling and supressi g and looking down upon those that do not meet your criteria .

But low functioning should still exist or your group thinks they should be seen as children etc

I take offence and agree many would fall between those gaps.

Would you stop coming to this forum of just come to look down upon those you consider less.

Creating more gaps and exclusion them and is I feel has nazi like ideology ringing from it.

Good luck to you high functioning “better” schizos then .

We should no longer see you on this site then not even for you to feel empowered by how good you are and how bad we are.

Spreading the love yo …

No donations would be necessary the hosting package I’m paying for as part of my business would cover it nicely.

Because those of us with SZ who work and attend school deal with symptoms, stigma, etc. We can definitely have discussions around how we balance the illness with other expectations and obligations in our lives.

Even though I and my therapist think I’m high functioning I guess I wouldn’t be allowed because of the job requirement. I would be interested. I still like to talk to low funcitoning sz because sometimes it feels like I can help them slightly.

Doctors don’t consider me High Functioning but they also don’t consider me Low Functioning.
I guess I’m somewhere in the Middle.
I worked in the same job for over two decades, but this in my past.
I currently collect SSDI and a pension.

I’m sorry that certain posts get under your skin but again this is a Schizophrenia Forum.

You are going to attract different types here including low functioning Schizophrenics.
And this is fine.

Again, I wish you luck with your new forum.

Where it’s a bit hard to have higher-level conversations due to the predilections of certain lower-functioning posters who have to slam sideways into conversations and prevent them from going anywhere.

I’m not interested. I consider myself elevated in functioning to some people but I’m not a believer in elitism. I think we all have our strengths and our faults and none of us are going to get anywhere if the people near the top want to keep separating themselves from the “others”

I attend more than one AA group. I get things out of some that I don’t get out of others, but I still go back to them.

No no no no no

If you want input on this forum become a mod :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless your too bitter and twisted in which case wait for suze’s dungeon to open? I’m sure you’d get some sort of therapeutic intervention there

I’m crazy, not stoopid.

Can you set up this forum, so that say only respected members can post on certain topics?

He was already a mod once.
