Should i try clozapine or another 2nd generation?

Iv reached a crossroads in my journey with schizophrenia.

My symptoms are there, thought insertion, paranoia about been gangstalked, thought voices. Im stable-ish.

Still avoid going out, and do hear voices which i do get lost in talking to but i manage to keep my insight.

My question is,

Should i try clozapine if my symptoms are kinda under control, and im stableish?

Or should i accept that living with schizophrenia and voices is my life now?

As i know, theres no perfect life, when living with schizophrenia

Id appreciate your opinions,

Regards,

It’s something you need to decide in consultation with your pdoc together.

You can’t always get rid of your symptoms. If your stable that may be better then taking a new drug that puts you in the Psych Ward.

@Jonathan2

Are you the one on clozapine for sleep?

Definitely talk to your pdoc. Maybe you can make a list of pros and cons with your pdoc, and then look it over for a few days before deciding?

Risperidone helps, but does not eliminate all voices and paranoia. Bye the bye, do you know if taking meds by splitting the dose twice per day is allowed?

I had a psychiatrist who suggested I do that with Abilify. But that’s all I know. I don’t know if it would work with all meds. For instance seroquel has a short half life, so it might not be a good idea with that.

You could ask your psychiatrist or pharmacist for a better answer.

Do you stay on the meds for a bit? I know it took a few months before mine went away completely.

Yes I am. I just take 12.5 mg which is a very low dose.

I think @Davincii also takes clozapine for sleep.

Are you also on another AP then?

Yes. I take 12 mg Invega, which is the max dose.

If you are stable on your.current meds a meds swap to another.drug can get catastrophic if the Clozapine doesn’t work or cause some uacceptable side effects to you.
I was like you affected by voices for decades and was on none.Clozapine.treatment for all that time.
I’m now on.Clopixol depot 500 mgs depot every 3 week and have used that one for nearly 3 decades. Besides of that I’m on 800 mg
Qutiapine Sandoz and have used that for 13 years.
I don’t have positives anymore and negatives and cognitives improves day by day ss well as sleep.

Im very paranoid about the certain suspicious people in public other than that i have voices externally and internally

Yeah, but I do not like side effects, since next day I am very slow. Besides I get dry mouth and I eat like I’ve never seen food before…lol…I am talking about serious binging. Can not stop snacking every hour or so…
Other side effect from clozapine is blured vision and I get some acid reflux.

Clozapine is a tough medication- try a combination if monotherapy doesn’t work. But, Clozapine is a medication of last resort.
