Got an emergency meeting today with her. She decided to up my abilify to 30mg. To hopefully help my cycling.
She did say if that doesnt work then it’ll be clozapine next. She said to think about it. But its cause ive tried so many over the years and i cant go on haldol, that destroyed me.
Any positive views of clozapine? In case i have to go on that.
Clozapine has been a miracle med for me. It changed my life and has allowed me to live in peace instead of chronic anguish and suffering. No movement disorder on this med. Worst treatable side effects are drooling and constipation.
I tried many APs at the time but none worked too well. Clozapine wasn’t finally considered and it’s the only AP to have completely silenced my auditory hallucinations and delusions at the time
The blood testing is a lot especially up to the first year. Then it’s usually required once monthly
Other meds had lots of annoying side effects too
Only got tachycardia over last few years with clozapine, and in middle of changes
But all in all clozapine did save my sanity at the time!
Good luck
Thank you all for the replies. That makes me feel better. Hopefully the abilify helps and its not needed. But i luckily dont mind blood draws. I just dont wanna worry my family.
My pdoc was just worried that i was depressed for a good while and now manic again. No middle ground. Im on a mood stabalizer though.
I also have delusions and some hallucinations still.
I hear you on the constipation! It’s also given me some cardiac issues, but, by God!, it’s the best medication I’ve ever been on with regards to voices and suicidal ideation and self harm. I’ve been on it about 2 years now, and during my last hospitalization it was determined that I MUST stay on it…they tried titrating the dose down and I absolutely began rapid-cycling. It’s a great med. I also take Vraylar 6mg, too…
I heard people comparing clozapine to amisulpride in terms of it’s effectiveness. Latter also isn’t required for such close monitoring, blood draw, etc.
I’m currently on 150mg…was on 300mg at one time, but they lowered it due to the cardiac issues. They tried to lower it to 100mg but I became symptomatic. They’re doing a level blood draw next week.
I feel that I need to go back up, but I have a cardiologist appointment today and that will probably play a role in how things go next.
Tachycardia?
I’m on clozapine too and got that
Currently at 125mg a day, and I used to be at 450mg years ago
Waiting to undergo heart tests still before changing anything …as per my psychiatrist
Yeah, I got it done today, both the echo and the Holter monitor. The echo was not as scary as I thought it would be, the tech was very friendly and made me comfortable. The Holter is for 7 days, and I’ll find out the results on Nov. 27, when I see the actual cardiologist.
It was tough getting to the appointment, as we had a lot of snow that my car can’t handle. So I took a taxi to the hospital and then the bus to my day center, and they gave me a ride home. I’m glad it all finally got done.
I just cant take clozapine. I was on it for a week and kept passing out. I know it works for some. I feel like it’s a dangerous drug. Idk. I was scared of not waking up. I hope it’s gentle with you and helps who may be on it.
I know some of the possible side effects are scary. There are risks, but the benefits outweigh them for me. Maybe in the future there will be a med that works as good as clozapine without any risks. I just know I have been on nearly everything and this med has been a miracle for my mental health
Clozapine is said to work when no antipsychotics did any thing.
Better effect than other antipsychotics but The antipsychotic with the worst side effect profile.
Great news
You have snow already? What country you in?
Lucky
I’m waiting over 5 weeks now for the holter
Like I said for me, it’s been asked for 48 hours
Hoping all is ok for the both of us, we are really in same boat at the moment
