Serotonin syndrome?

So I’ve been off of meds for the last 3 months, last week I started taking them again because I have a final exam tomorrow and wanted to be in the best mental shape. I was also recently prescribed cyclobenzaprine for a uti, fatigue, and to help me sleep. Last night I started becoming slightly manic and paranoid. I was still coherent and able to form sentences and ideas but I had racing thoughts, confusion, and had been a bit delusional. This morning the delusions didn’t seem to be there but I feel very shaken, a bit agitated, and I’m having a lot of difficulty concentrating. I went to urgent care and the doc there told me it was most likely serotonin syndrome and to go to the ER because that’s above his level of care. I can’t go to the hospital however because of my exam tomorrow and I don’t have the money. I know serotonin syndrome is typically treated with benzos, but I don’t know where I can get them. Is there anything else I can do to relieve symptoms?

I currently have ability, latuda, risperdone, atenolol, zyprexa, topamirate, atenolol, vistaril, cyclobenzapine, lexapro, and cipro at my disposal. I’m also supposed to be receiving phenibut in the mail tomorrow. Is there anything I can take to help?

Is there anyone you can talk to about this that you trust and you know cares for you. To be honest, you really need to just go to the ER and stop worrying about the test. But, if you are unwilling to do that you need to speak to someone like a pdoc or therapist or at the minimum, someone who can talk you through this (like a trusted friend or family member).

I really hope everything works out for you.

You do know that serotonin syndrome is potentially life threatening right? That’s why he wanted you to go to the ER, it can get serious quickly if left ignored

My mom somehow found a Xanax yesterday so I was able to take that and it helped. I’m a bit better but not completely. Hopefully progress will continue. Thanks!

I was told once by a doctor they were going to originally market cyclobenzaprine as an antidepressant, when they discovered its muscle relaxing properties so they marketed it as a muscle relaxer instead. No joke. So if you take something else that raises serotonin then it could be serotonin syndrome. I would definitely get checked out at the er. Or if you get mania at all, it could be elevating your mood. But you definitely need to see a doctor about it… like today.
