Religion and schizophrenia

Religious delusions almost killed me twice. I wish I could isolate myself from religion as it kills me for real. Its good here on the forum that religion is banned but I wish it would be the same in real life. My parents keep talking to me about religion and miracles and that miracles can cure mental illness.

If there was no religion there would be less schizophrenia in the world. My parents wanted me to stop my meds and exorcise me. It scared the ■■■■ out of me, I will end up killing ppl or myself if that happens as I am like that without meds.

I don’t know, technology and aliens have reached the level and power to replace traditional religious delusions and delusions about witchcraft and paranormal powers that were common in the past.

I wish I had aliens delusions instead of religious delusions, my religious delusions are much more dangerous than aliens delusions. I think I am God and that I need to kill myself to prove it. I already almost died twice because of religion. Once in an intentional car accident at 200kmh and another liver failure from an intentional overdose. I was 100% sure that I am God and that I wont die.

I agree with Zeno.

My first episode was religiously driven or themed and my second major one was technologically themed.

I don’t agree that either should be stopped or not around, I just think a better understanding of why those things induce or become linked to our breakdowns is what’s needed (if this makes sense?).

I just go psychotic when hearing or seeing things about religion. I cant control my brain.

I fear becoming psychotic and trying to kill ppl and myself again.

I know that I cant stop religion in the real world but then its not my fault if I kill ppl and/or myself.

Try to avoid it and explain to your parents that it is dangerous for you.

I find it difficult when I constantly hear my parents listening to religious speeches and writing me religious things in my birthdays cards stuff like that. It’s a bit complex to explain why though.

Yeah, it’s definitely a trigger for you. And it’s right to stay away from it, it’s not right to be around something that can cause stressor mechanisms for you.

Did your friends and gf also trigger you with religion?
In my experience you rarely hear about it outside nowadays.

This is exactly why we ban religious discussions. Glad it helps you here.

I think it brings back psychotic memories. This goes to show I have not yet healed from those psychosis memories, innit.

That doesnt bother me much, what triggers my psychosis is when they talk to me about miracles and how that can treat my schizophrenia. They triggered me when they wanted to exorcise me, I almost stopped taking meds that day and I couldnt sleep.

Thing is that I was religious and a deacon in church before my schizophrenia. I stopped believing in religion since my sz to prevent psychosis.

my first psychotic break included a lot of religious themes… the team of doctors at the nut ward said i had ‘religiously preoccupied thoughts’ and that i had to come to grips with reality.

I think that some people that have no religious delusions could benefit from it, for example my mother when she was psychotic was suicidal because of her delusions but because of her religion she didn’t do it.
