Pulled over for no reason, harassed, given written warning

I was pulled over for NO reason. She said I was talking on my cell phone. She began to ask me tons of questions “WHERE ARE YOU GOING” in a condescending manner. “WHERE ARE YOU COMING FROM?”…I’m coming from my apartment going to work. In a not sketchy area at all. Doing nothing sketchy whatsoever. I showed her my cell phone and said “Look through my recent calls…i haven’t made a call in a day”, and she completely ignored it. Took my license, registration, insurance…went back to her car. Then a male cop comes asks me all kinds of questions…he was chill…but of course he had to ask “DO YOU HAVE ANY DRUGS OR WEAPONS IN THE VEHICLE”…I wanted to say I haven’t even smoked weed since july and that’s decriminalized. Then the female cop comes back with a “written warning”…and looked at me like she expected me to thank her for it! So I half-assed sarcastically said thanks after a 3 second lull in the conversation.

This right after I drank a tall glass of coffee and was completely anxious. They kept asking me “WHY ARE YOU NERVOUS” “WHY ARE YOU NERVOUS”…I mean I haven’t been pulled over in 5 years and last time they pulled a gun on me (I was going through a psychotic episode) of course I’m gonna be nervous.

Just ridiculous. Ruined my day. Went to work, was so rattled…but feeling better now. Is there any way I can file a complaint with the P.D. It was ridiculous.

I think she must have had a good reason for pulling you over, but only god knows why. If I were in that situation I would neutralize my excessive paranoid feelings by filing in the WHY blank with something more positive then just believing that cop pulled you over for no good reason at all is entirely “Up To You” what you put there in the blank places anywhere you have them in your life.

The police have a lot of power in that situation. If you had been defiant in any way she might have made you get out of the vehicle and lay face down on the ground while she searched you. That can be hard. I think the cops are too eager to do it. Rightly or wrongly, the police will not tolerate the smallest challenge in that situation. Don’t ever resist, because the police will escalate the situation ridiculously. I know it sucks, but don’t make your anger known when the police detain you.

I was very respectful…and too anxious to do anything defiant. I was shaking as I spoke. It was just ridiculous. Ruined my day.

yeah thats the police for ya’. they have an almost “occult” wway of making you feel bad, even though you’ve done nothing (NOTHING!) wrong

I am sorry that you had to go through this - Me personally am very paranoid of the police, I had a bad experience with them when I was psychotic, years ago - a couple of cops threatened to “work me over” outside of my house.

I really am super paranoid around them - dont like seeing them slowly cruising around my town.
I am a law abiding citizen, never had a record, but still am very paranoid of them - I think it could also be illness related

It’s not illness related, it’s culturally ingrained in us, to feel fear. That’s why you hear a lot of cultural critics saying (and they are right) that the police need us more than we need them. It’s ancient, fear based mongering. IMHO anywway.

A similar situation happened to me before. Perhaps next time if they ask why you are anxious just tell them that you have sever social anxiety. They probably thought you had something illegal in your car because you were acting so nervous.

Some cops actually pulled a prank on my once when I was shaking I was so nervous. They went to their car and told me they had a warrant for my arrest and then chuckled and said they were just kidding.

I got pulled over for a warning because my tags were a few weeks over due since I forgot to renew them. I was really scared because I’ve always been afraid of the police and plus it was by a high school that was just done for the day and all these teens were walking by and laughing and pointing at me. I was so scared the police officer unsnapped her gun and put her hand on it. I just sat still like a statue with my hands on the steering wheel and said sorry I have to look for my drivers license in the armrest. She relaxed a little and so did I. But yea I was shaken up for a long time after that.

thats just bulleying. ■■■■■■■ pricks.

True, I was just happy they didn’t impound my car though, since I had a busted head light and they could of, but they said they weren’t going to since getting it out of the pound was going to cost more than the car was worth :stuck_out_tongue:
