Hey guys got the idea to make a thread all about fasting so we can support each other and post info about this topic. Please share your experiences
I just ate some ham and charros beans so my fast is up now. But I will try to diet for the rest of the day
I think I might try omad and have a meal every day at 4pm or so
I decided to stop taking sugar
I find that sipping water really helps make hunger go away. Itās really useful!
As I said in the say anything thread and have mentioned before, I lost a lot of weight and reversed diabetes through fasting. But, at the time I had delusional religious motivation to do so and sometimes went 2 or 3 days without food.
This is something I canāt really do with diabetes without stopping medications that drop blood sugar.
I tried some less extreme fasting more recently but discarded it after it made me feel weird despite blood sugar tests coming up ok.
I donāt know. Maybe I will try again.
Oh, I also fasted for my colonoscopy for about 36 hours recently.(although I had jello to raise blood sugar as needed, so I donāt know if that counts.)
The longest fast I did was 2 weeks in 2019⦠for religious reasons.
When I did Keto I would do 2-3 day fasts and omad some daysā¦
Now I do 16:8 sometimes.
I am going to try a 24 hour fast though and if I feel okay, I will do another day. I will start at 6 pm and end at 6pm tomorrow⦠letās see how it goes.
Hope it goes well! Two weeks is a really long time! You had no food the entire time? Thatās crazy lol
Good luck that sounds cool
What will you break your fast with?
@FreeLunch Probably a broth⦠maybe Iāll make the bok choy brothā¦
@POET Yeah it was crazy⦠then I started having hallucinations that God was talking to me and wanted me to continue for 2 more weeks. But I stopped at 2 weeks. I had water crackers⦠like 1 or 2 some days. But just a lot of tea and water.
I donāt know if I can do it again though.
Dang thatās crazy hmm⦠yea I wonāt get into it but even people who are nearly ancient masters of fasting donāt really recommend crazy long fasts. I saw it written somewhere that one should āeat a little every dayā. Thatās the real challenge I think. Eating but eating very little at a time. Thatās true fasting to me. Thatās why I chose omad.
Yeah it was a test. If I do it again, I would probably do the omad route. Um I think Iāll do omad after the 1 or 2 day fast. My friend did a 40 day fast with omad and she had good results. So Iāll try that.
I fasted Ramadan about twelve years ago or something like that I think.
You are not even allowed water .
You can eat and drink before sunrise and after sunset but not in between.
I would try drinking half a litre before sun rise so I wouldnāt be too dehydrated during the day.
Iām not a Muslim now.
I fasted the whole month of Ramadan .
Proud of myself for doing it though.
And I did it all by myself as I was living alone n so.
I donāt fast nowadays but have food fasted and only had dinner Omad .
Maybe Iāll try Omas too in future.
Iāll think about it.
Sounds like a cool experience! My best friend is Muslim too. I think it would be interesting to try fasting a month. Actually itās lent rn I really should be fasting anyways lol
I have a bestie thatās Muslim too which is why I was muslim for a year.
I fasted Ramadan , wore hijab , prayed five times a day , ate only halal , no alcohol or sex.
Iām not Muslim now but was for a year.
I believe thereās a lot of beauty there but donāt believe in all of it for me.
My Muslim bestie and I are not in contact as such but our love is deeper than sex and we are still close in spirit.
Iāve been off track for a while. Reallly need to lose some weight with my diet.
I did omad for a significant amount of time. The biggest problem for me was that Iād need to fight against my body to throw down all my daily protein in one meal and so⦠I didnāt. If you have a protein goal you might want to introduce a protein shake or something during the fast, which I also didnāt do, and yeah it will break the fast but it may be a better outcome than not eating enough protein, depending on the goal.
Problems with protein aside, I felt great on omad and consider it the most comfortable eating pattern for me. I didnāt get hungry and I didnāt waste so much time around food and I didnāt have to abide to a tight schedule where every four hours or so I have to clock in and eat and I could stand up very satisfied while still be in a caloric deficit.
I think omad is not ideal if the goal is better body composition past 20-25% body fat for males or 27-32% for females, you can probably knock down an extra 5% if you add a protein source during the fast but it aināt technically omad anymore at that point. It can be a great tool to lose weight if you are obese or your main problem is binging rather than overeating more generally. I have seen people knock it out of the park even for single digit bodyfat but if you are stuffing all your protein in one meal you are likely not going to enjoy it and research shows that you are quite simply not optimizing muscle protein synthesis by cramming all your proteins in one sitting, which makes it very hit or miss depending on how the individual responds to the protocol.
I enjoy fasting and I think itās worth giving it a go to see how your body reacts but keep in mind that if the goal is getting leaner you might want to shift to multiple protein intakes throughout the day to give your body its best chance to retain or build muscle, especially towards the end of the diet when the risk is highest. Remember to track your proteins if nothing else though, you donāt want to find out later that youāve been undereating protein throughout your diet, though your wallet may be happier that way.
@POET ,you started potentially health problematic threadā¦
I read and at least two posters had horrible health condition due to religous reasons.
Including me.(not gonna talk how my sz started by not eating at all and not sleeping )
Just my thought,Iām not mean broā¦
I think Iāve said this b4 but adding vinegar to your water helps stave off hunger. It does something to your sugar levels.
