Off the wagon - started smoking again

Woke up this morning and really wanted a cigarette. Had one thinking it would be a one off. Anyway 3 hours and 4 cigarettes later I feel like I have let myself down.

Oh that sucks.
I’m moving to the ecig soon, just have to find a way to buy one, have no idea where.

Same here. And I’m kind of short on cash…

I just found a store near my house. Going there today. Have no idea what to expect, that paraphernalia looks complicated.

Maybe next month, Tree.

My mom is forcing me to quit smoking, saying she’ll buy me an ecig but refuses to buy me cigarettes! It’s now or never!

I had an ecig once, it worked great! You just have to get used to it, and for me I eventually almost stopped craving cigarettes because they felt dirty and tasted bad. The ecig I had broke though.

I’m looking forward to stop smoking. I really hate it.

E-cigs are pretty easy to use once you have been shown how.

My real disappointment is that I have been using an ecig for about a year and still fell off the wagon. What is worse is that I actually really enjoyed my tobacco cigarette.

I know, when I quit smoking going back was wonderful. But it’s not worth it. It’s time quit again James.

Don’t beat yourself up over it too much - just a bruise or two will do :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, cold turkey is very rarely recommended (if at all?). Definitely look into vaporizers.

There are quite a few different types and it can be overwhelming when starting out - but you can really just break down into:

  1. Disposable ones. The device itself is good for hundreds of puffs then the entire thing is a throw-away.
  2. Semi disposable ones. The body of the device is kept, but an attachment with pre-filled juice is discarded after consumed and a new one takes its place.
  3. Not disposable ones: this is where there are so many sub-options. The general idea though is that you have two main sections - the battery and the chamber where all the action takes place. You buy the juice separately and you put it into the chamber, put the two sections together and off you go.

Regarding option 3. This is where you have the most control because you can buy the liquids necessary separately. This involves two types of goop that are necessary to promote vaporization - you can buy them pre-blended or you can combine them yourself at different ratios, which allows fine tuning of the thickness/viscosity of the fluid and the resultant textural sensation in the mouth and the amount of visible vapor. Then you have flavours, which you can blend and get real creative with - there are thousands of options. Then you have nicotine solutions that allow you (if you don’t mind doing some basic calculations) to personalise the strength of the hit, as well as give you the ability to taper down the amount at your own pace.

If that sounds overwhelming, you can just buy ready-to-go liquids that have all the above catered for and you just have to inject it into the tank. You can select flavour intensity, the ratio of those chemicals I mentioned and the strength of the nicotine when you buy the product. So you still have options, even taking this easier path.

I probably should have just Googled and pasted a far better explanation haha I can be silly like that.

Thanks for the explanation, I googled it but it wasn’t as good

It took me about fifty tries to quit smoking. Don’t give up.

Think of the money you’ll save. Think of the improvements of your health. Think how much better food will taste.

Cigarettes are a never ending threat. I’ve been on ecigs for over a year, and nearly had a cigarette recently. Lucky there weren’t any in the house.

My uncle stopped smoking and after 15 years said he usually has nightmares about smoking again.

I often wonder … once the stigma of nicotine by association with cigarettes dilutes, if funding will be provided for research into developing drugs that specifically target nicotinic receptors. I know there are already drugs like bupropion that have some fairly random nicotinic mechanisms of action, but they are of no use to a person with SZ physiology due to their dopamine agonism … and that rules out one of the largest affected demographics … Seems a little grrr inspiring.

There was another time my brother was smoking a cigar which he does every few months, and I really really wanted a puff. :confounded:

If you’re getting an ecig:

  1. don’t get a “temperature controlled” one ever, as the jury is out about how toxic they are.

  2. Also don’t get eliquid with a strength greater than 20mg, as you might get used to it, and they’ll be unavailable in that strength soon due to EU regs.

Ecigs are like meds, it takes a while to find the right one.

Thanks for the tips! I will buy one this afternoon. My mom is joining me and buying one for herself.

Maybe skip the beginner ones, and ask for a “variable wattage” one. The beginner ones won’t keep you off cigs for very long anyway. Make sure the guy in the shop shows you how to use it.

Good luck Miiiiiinnnniiiii !!!
