Nurse practitioner wants me to try colazopine

I’m scared honestly and I’m probably going to start it soon

Clozapine was the best med i ever took for psychosis. It kept the delusions away and took away the voices. Granted, the initial weekly blood tests are a pain at first, but after a year of normal tests it becomes once a month. Some places can do the test with just a fingerstick. Unfortunately, clozapine gave me cardiac problems (which went away after stopping). If i could take clozapine safely, i would, hands down. I hope it works for you…it’s a really powerful med, but a really GOOD med. I think clozapine is actually underutilized cuz so many pdocs don’t want to deal with it…

Before the heart problems, clozapine was the med that improved my functioning enough that i was able to move out of my parent’s house and go to university for my bachelor’s and then master’s. It’s THAT good. I just went off it last February when it gave me QTc prolongation. They tried to put me on it again last month when i was in the hospital but the heart problems started again…I’m on Cobenfy now and it’s not (yet) as good as clozapine. I think you’ll find clozapine really works well.

@WhiteRaven thanks… I’m telling my nurse practitioner’s nurse is like to try it and then I’ll be talking to my nurse practitioner next month

I have taken it for two years now

Not completely effective but I am much calmer and can actually sleep as well

Should have said yes much sooner

Good luck :four_leaf_clover:

@Crystal-Cotton @Joker @WhiteRaven I’ll admit I’m not excited about all the blood work but other than that I feel okay with it thanks to y’all

The bloods were annoying but I am on monthly tests now
IMO I think all APs need that level of scrutiny

Clozapine has helped me with my suicidal ideation, when I take it in the evening it clears my mind of worry and has been a really good choice so far. I also get blood drawn monthly but it overlaps with my Pdoc appointment so I hit two birds with one stone!!

It’s a miracle drug. I started taking it while I was in hospital. It immediately improved my sleep and psychosis symptoms. The downside is weekly bloods once you start it.

I’ve been on clozapine the past 17 years. That is a long time. It is good medicine. Now I’m on the journey to reduce it and maybe some day be totally clozapine-free.
