Now i have dysphagia... Who else had problems swallowing food?

Well, I am currently changing from the meds and the efforts, but now I have problems swallowing food, yeah… I prefer the soft, almost liquid foods…
My brain was dead for years… And the Zyprexa couldn’t open my appetite as for others, I was so ill… But yeah, this is scary too now… I guess its the anxiety and a bit of stiffness from the meds and the illness :/…
Will this go away? Well, I have no choice, I am going to soft meals now

Did you contact a doctor @Anna1?
Dysphagia is serious.
You need medical attention.

But what they can do? Its anxious… they cant do nothing wave, ive read about it on google… eventually a surgery or a tube in your stomach if its severe…If its milder, just a retraining, yeah…
I had a friend who went through anxiety and she was having it too…
what the docs can do wave? no thanks for the surgery or the tube yeah…

At least tell your pdoc, it could be med related.

yeah, I am stuck with the Zyprexa too, you cant know how lifethreatening were the other aps on me…Maybe its temporary, idk…

If it continues or if it gets worse I would get it checked out medically.
Better safe than sorry.

I have difficulty swallowing certain textures. Sometimes I feel as though I will choke on certain foods. I tend towards softer foods most of the times and have given up some things I used to like or limit them now. Bread is one food I have trouble with, so it has to be moistened well or I choke on it. Little bites, lots of chewing, it’s annoying.

Is it anxiety you think, leaf?

no, I think its a reaction to the aps

Yeap, the famous stiffness, I think it too…and you cant change your ap either despite this @Leaf?

it’s only mild and my ap is working great

Oh, yeap, I see. Me too I only respond to Zyprexa…

I figure if the problem swallowing was too bad I would start to lose weight, but I haven’t yet so everything is fine

I am currently having the same problem right now on invega trinza 546mg. I didn’t know it had a name (Dysphagia). I already talked to my pdoc last week about it and he said he didn’t know of any cases of someone on my medications that have had trouble swallowing. He said he’d look into it further, but I’m worried that he’s gonna forget about it the next time I go to see him. I can swallow to some extent but I have difficulty with foods that are greasy. It gets worse if I’m lying down or if i turn my head one way or the other. Originally they prescribed me cogentin 1mg in the hospital for the difficulty swallowing. I eventually stopped the cogentin because it made my mouth and throat so dry that swallowing was still an issue. I read online that difficulty swallowing is a possible side effect of anti psychotics. It’s believed it caused by a lack of dopamine in the brain. I mentioned this also to my doctor. I also read that sometimes they prescribe Parkinson’s medications to people who have trouble swallowing, since parkinsons is believed to be caused by a lack of dopamine. I’m no doctor but I’d ask your doctor about these things. I get scared sometimes too. It’s like I might accidentally inhale the flem in my throat and choke to death.

Oh, thanks for the answer, dear… Yeap, I think its ap related. I always had a bit of fear when swallowing but now its a problem, ill see… But as I said it, I had a friend with anxiety, who was having the same issue in the past. She fixed it once her anxiety went away… Yeah, I know of the existence of anti Parkinson meds, but they have bad side effects on me too, even for my mind… I am a bit stuck, sorry to occupy you all… But I am not stable, maybe this will go away once I am better…
And yes, the meds cause stiffness, it can happen. I saw once a guy in the hospital, who went completely stiffed on aps… Ok, for the docs, talk to yours too, this is more common than you can find…

Hey, I also wanted to point, that since I am ill, I always had problems eating and swallowing too in fact… I guess I always had a low dopamine… No matter that I need aps still…
Cogentin is anti Parkinson too I think if my memory is good… Well, I am quite stuck, I cant stop my current ap, plus I am not well enough, so I guess still a lower dopamine no matter that they lower it for me now with aps… I’ll try to eat when I can, but yeah, you probably say to yourself how hard patient I am… it sux… I’ll see, i’ll try the softer meals, I have no choice I think…

I hope you get better and find a way to fix your trouble swallowing. I think your right, cogentin is also anti parkinson’s medication. I can’t stop my current ap either. I’ll just keep managing my symptoms and being careful when I eat or swallow foods.

Ok, me too yeap  I even don’t have an apettite… In fact, I remain a bit hungry sometimes, but its like this need and the whole eating process is blocked introvertly in me lol… sorry if I sound crazy, but that’s how I am now  I think, that In one hand I was having anxiety and paranoia, and on the other - negatives…
I have an ill friend with negatives too and she cant eat a lot too even on aps… Mostly coffee and cigarettes…Yeah, that’s how are the negatives… low dopamine…Maybe once we are better in our heads, our swallowing will get better too, idk… Do you get scared of this @solidus? i’ll have to change all my diet regime now…

I feel like I’m pretty stable on my current medication regimine. If by scared you mean, do I get scared when I start to choke? Then my answer would be yes. sorry if this may seem rude but I have to help my brother with his internet right now. I’ll be back later though :slightly_smiling_face:
