Nicotine patches and sleep

So I heard leaving them on at bed time causes bad nightmares. Does anyone know? Honestly I don’t need my nightmares to get worse.

I asked Bing’s ai thing and it said:

Nicotine patches, as a form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), can indeed have side effects, including changes in dreaming. Research suggests that many people report experiencing more vivid dreams when using nicotine patches¹. One study found that participants using nicotine patches had more vivid and visual dreams¹. Another study reported abnormal dreams as one of the top three side effects experienced by participants using a combination of nicotine patches and other cessation aids¹.

If vivid or unpleasant dreams occur while wearing the patch at night, it is recommended to remove the patch and apply a new one in the morning¹. It’s important to note that individual experiences may vary, and consulting with a healthcare provider is always best when considering NRT options…

I left the patch on a few times before going to sleep.

Yes, I’m an idiot.

But the dreams are VIVID, I’ve never had a nightmare though.

I guess it’s different when you smoke or vape bcz you quit at night makes sense I guess.

You may just have a vivid/weird dream not necessarily a nightmare but probably poor sleep quality

Nicotine is a stimulant. Sleep is an unconscious rest state.

It’s obviously disturbing the sleep wake cycle, where you are spending more time in or have higher arousal in the dream state. If you take stimulant while sleeping you are more likely to ended up between being awake and being a sleep.

That’s what dreaming, is low consciousness state in between being awake and asleep.
