Nice weather. Drinking temptation

Ugh. Im quitting drinking. Im down from 5 days a week to about twice a month. But im finding it harder to resist with the weather getting nicer. As soon as the sun pops out and it hits 60 degrees i am tepted to go get beer. Just writing about beer makes me want one. But all it takes is one to make me paranoid. Any tips on how to resist the urge?

Are you on antipsychotics? I don’t think you’re supposed to drink on antipsychotics. I can’t drink anymore because of the psych meds I take.

Yes im on APs. I know you arent supposed to but i do it anyway. It makes me dizzy and stops the meds from working properly. But the feeling of a buzz is so worth risking getting paranoid for. It puts me in such a good mood

I wish I could still drink but I’d rather be stable on meds.

I think you have practised the nice weather to a drink.
You could connect to anything you like other than the above.
You got to decide which one it would be.

I’m dealing with some major carb cravings. When I crave carbs I ask myself “is it worth it? Eating that piece of bread?”

If I eat one piece of bread then I’ll eat several. I can’t do carbs in moderation.

Maybe just stop and say “Is one drink worth being a slave to alcohol?”

There are no particularly harmful interactions between antipsychotics and alcohol. The thing to keep in mind is that sedating (typically due to histamine H1-receptor blockade) antipsychotics can have synergistic sedative effects in combination with alcohol because the sedating effects of alcohol are through different mechanisms of action.

Then why does it say AVOID ALCOHOL on my meds.

Get a soda. Like coke or root beer. Or youru favorite juice. Just get used to that on a nice day.

I hardly drink but still get the urge to every now and then. Like if im fixing stuff on my bike or a vehicle i thnk itd be nice to have a beer.

So root beer it is

Yeah i just got my first 12 pack of soda from the store this week. I drank it in like 3 days. The carbonation is a good substitue for beer. And opening the can makes it feel like a beer. I dont want to get too into soda though. Its pretty bad for you. But i guess its also better than drinking beer

Im honestly scared to step foot in the beer store

Does the bud zero taste like the real thing.?

I have no idea. Ive never tried it. Ill let you know if i go pick some up today. The only thing is. Wouldnt it just make you want to drink the real thing?

Yes, it does.

You’re better off finding a totally different substitution. Lemonade is great for warm days.

Well friends. I wLked into the beer store and got a can of beer. Alcoholic. Might as well kiss this day goodbye cause ill be paranoid and in bed before i finish it. Weak moment. Little bit of a relapse.

There was a time (in the 90s IIRC) when the potential of alcohol to interact with medications was big news, and I think that’s the reason why some medication package inserts like to recommend against alcohol, so as to err on the side of caution, even though there is limited scientific rationale for it.

It’s important to keep in mind, however, that there are real and potentially lethal interactions between alcohol and various sedatives, especially opioids and barbiturates but also benzodiazepines, especially when you don’t have tolerance to them.

Oh ok. I drank pretty heavy for a while and was fine. But my dad doesnt like it so if i drink i feel guilty. And guilt is a sure proponent of paranoia

It does depend on the situation. Using antihistamines (many/most antipsychotics) with alcohol can impair your alertness more than either of them alone and this is dangerous if you engage in certain activities, such as driving, or even walking in the case of many elderly people at risk of falls.
