Drinking on antipsychotics

I am currently on Geodon and Latuda and I turn 21 in a few months. I want to try drinking at some point but me and my girlfriend have both been told that I shouldn’t by my psychiatrist. I am just curious how dangerous it actually is. Does anyone have experience with it? How did it make you feel? Is it really That dangerous or is it just a precautionary measure that psychiatrists take?

Its quite dangerouse ive done it a couple times and got heart palpitations and very high anxiety. If you are going to do it take your meds at a later time in the day when the alcohol is out of your system or drink early if you take it say in the evenings.

I’d avoid it to be honest. If you do want to do it for your birthday, don’t take it on the day. It won’t kill you but it could cause relapse. It’s not a sensible idea, even if it is your birthday.

I’ve had alcohol on antipsychotics and it makes me extremely sleepy and a little hypoglycemic. I can no longer achieve a buzz from drinking while on AP’s. That’s my experience.

It gives me bad headaches the next morning even when just drinking a quarter of a cup of red wine.
It also makes me dizzy much faster bcz of meds.
Nowdays I just have cherry beer 3% half a cup, no issues. Avoid it all if you can’t control yourself.

I drink 3 beers every couple of weeks this week I drank 6 its no big deal

Yes 5% beer one can is no problem for me.

But anything 10% and more gives me headaches.

I drink beer every other day. Then I take my pills 1-2 hrs after I’m done drinking. The pills are benzotropine, trazadone and divalprolex. I fall asleep right after. It’s not something I recommend doing. You guys are freaking me out talking about how dangerous it is.

Just a reminder – No discussions about alcohol except in a recovery context.
