Drinking on meds?

Do you drink any alcohol on medication? How much?

I don’t. It makes me psychotic with olfactory hallucinations. Its not recommended to drink with our meds.

If you still want to drink just don’t drink too much because too much can cause or worsen psychosis.

I vaguely remember heavily drinking with olanzapine a long time ago, lost my mind blacked out. More sensible now, i’m contemplating a beer

One to two can of beer is fine imo

I was drinking 3/4 of a bottle of wine a night on meds. Didn’t affect me just helped me relax and sleep. I’ve quit now though.

I hate to admit, but i’m “contemplating” a beer or a glass of wine on meds, even if your’e not supposed to do it.

The meds don’t work as they should, when drinking alcohol, so i can’t recommend it (hypocritically me)

I’m an AA so I don’t drink, period. Quit before the SZ started. If you want to drink, check with your doctor. If he says it’s a no go because of your meds, then don’t.

I’ll have a couple beers every once in a while, maybe get hammered once every 2 or 3 months. Even though I dabbled in a lot of substances I never became an addict so drinking a couple never bothered me. But if you are taking anxiety meds like benzos or buspar you definitely shouldn’t consume any alcohol.

i will have a couple cold beers on a warm summer day. like once a week. and sometimes in the winter, mom dad and i will get the fireplace going and have a glass of red wine. i try to limit myself to no more than 2 drinks. i don’t enjoy getting drunk anymore, so i just have a drink to relax and take the edge off. but lately i’ve learned that working out is better for me than having a drink for taking the edge off. i don’t think im an alcoholic but i notice the more i drink the less i want to do healthy things like workout, it increases my negatives and lack of motivation. it’s a slippery slope for me so im thinking about cutting it out all together.

I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol in decades.
Booze worsens my condition.
Besides alcohol and meds don’t mix well.

Don’t drink on meds. :snail::snail::snail:

Good point, benzos (anxiety meds) increase GABA transmission in the brain which causes sedation just like alcohol. Mixing alcohol with benzos or any other drug which increases GABA can cause coma and in rare cases death.

Definitely man, I learned that from experience. I’m lucky none of my friends or I OD’d or died in our sleep in our late teens/early 20s.

I will only have one pint. I damaged my liver so had to stop that habit
