I went to see my pdoc today and asked about Rexulti - She started to chuckle a bit and said that it was basically Abilify with a brand new name.
She feels that it would not be a good match for me, telling me that its too similar to Abilify (I did not do well on Abilify).
She said she will be tracking it over the months to see how it does.
She may consider lowering the Risperdal in a few months - no new meds for me, she thinks that Im doing good enough.
She prescribed more exercise for me - deep breathing, meditation (which I dont do) etc…
So far, I really like her style

Those are good news I think, don’t you Wave?
How do you feel about it all. The reduction of medication and all…

You weren’t doing well on too much Risperdal and she reduced it… How’s the take on the additional Zyprexa?

I told her when I was on Zyprexa years ago, it messed with my thyroid and shot up my blood glucose levels - she does not want me to take it any longer - my pdoc is a big believer in less meds for her patients.
She said that my 2.5 mg dose of Risperdal is pretty low as it is
Its low but it is not really a low dose. A low dose would be 1.5 mg in my opinion. 1-2 mg.

I knew a girl that has Sza disorder and took only 2.5mg of Zyprexa. She heard voices. I think that’s the only symptom she had.
I have no contact with her any more. Things went sour.

Yes I agree, this is why I want to go lower if I can.
I went as low as 1.5 mg in the past

1.5mg as the only medication? She took only that, 2.5mg, and that took me by surprise as I used to take 10mg.

We are talking about Risperdal dosing - 2.5 mg Zyprexa is a very low dose

Yeah. I was just saying that she took only Zyprexa 2.5mg for her symptoms and worked.

I dont know, right now Im shooting for 2 mg, in a couple of months like she said, I would like to go lower eventually - down to 1.5 mg again.
This time I am not on Lamictal - which destabilized my moods some

Yes - that is the general consensus of all the researchers I’ve talked to with regard to the follow-on versions of all the second generation medications. Its just the pharma companies trying to get more money from people for the same old drug that has just gone off patent.

Good luck. I hope it works out this time.

I’m getting desperate. I’m on abilify and it works to keep me sane, but I can’t tolerate it. I’m desperate to try rexulti.

If it’s basically the same thing as abilify it might have the same reaction on you. But discuss it with your doctor on the next appointment.

@everhopeful if you are doing well on Abilify but suffering from a lot of Akathisia then it might be worth switching to Rexulti - its supposed to be less activating.
Talk it over with your pdoc
That what I’m going to do I’ve decided. It’s all a crap shoot anyway.

In fact, yes. A slightly different formulation to get around Abilify going generic. Both meds are made by the same company in Japan.
Wave: Remind me again what it is about Risp that bugs you. (I know it’s sfx city with that ■■■■, but which particular ones are bugging you?)
