My dentist said I don’t need to use toothpaste

He said my teeth will get just as clean brushing without it. I think my dental hygiene has improved since he told me this because when I’m depressed I seem to be able to run a toothbrush across my teeth but not so much if I have to put toothpaste on it. So now I always brush my teeth, even if it’s just with water. Apparently that’s good enough, according to my dentist. I do go in for a cleaning every six months and never have any cavities.

That is interesting. No toothpaste, never heard of that.:thinking::thinking:

Me neither. I still prefer to use toothpaste, and still do use it most of the time, but knowing that brushing without it is effective too has helped me keep brushing even when I feel too depressed to take proper care of myself.

Thanks!
Good to know @anon1517417
I have a hard time sometimes.

I’m so jealous. I brush, floss, mouthwash, and use mineralizing paste twice daily and still get cavities. I have genetically bad teeth.

Do your teeth still look and feel clean after no toothpaste brush?

I just looked it up online, and you are right @anon1517417, dentists agree, toothpaste is not necessary.
Wow really good to know!

Thanks again!

I have trouble keeping up with my hygiene in general I try not to smell with baby wipes and body spray and I try not to have yellow teeth so I use that charcoal tooth powder once in a while

Just to think all this time, the toothpaste industry has been a scam.:grin::grin:

I have trouble keeping up with my hygiene also.
I use plenty of cologne and deodorant everyday.

So I assume the fluoride in tap water is enough fluoride? How interesting. Last time I saw my dentist they even told me not to rinse my mouth even. I was thinking no way

If you want to remineralize cavities, take Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D. Stops pain pretty fast.

My dentist told me the same thing. He says no one needs teeth anyways and that teeth aren’t important as some people think.

That’s so true! I myself have been living without any molars nor any partials for years now and none the worse for it.

My ex has no teeth and won’t wear dentures and he eats steak all the time.

I haven’t been using toothpaste lately and it isn’t because I think there is anything wrong with it.

But it can make you ‘feel’ like your teeth are clean because of the taste.

With dry brushing I check to see how my teeth feel with my tongue and that helps me gauge how ‘clean’ they actually are.

I think if they squeak then its smooth and especially clean?

Maybe toothpaste erodes enamel? My hygienist doesn’t use toothpaste when she cleans my teeth.

I think flossing is important, and those water picks (it sprays water) make sense. Yeah, they’re expensive, but not nearly as expensive as going to the dentist with bad teeth and gums.

Yes, my dentist said it isn’t important to use toothpaste, but it is to floss. I’m trying to get better about that.
