My blood sugar keeps dropping

It gets so low I get dizzy, shaky, my hands and arms fall asleep and my heart races. I eat 90 g of protein a day and complex carbs throughout the day. I’m thinking I don’t need the diabetes med anymore

I would talk to your doctor about that.

Yeah. I plan to tomorrow

You may need to eat more carbs throughout the day.
Try including more fruit.

To be honest I don’t think I’m eating enough during the day.

My old primary care physician said I could try stopping the Glipizide, a diabetes medication. My fasting blood sugar was 73. It was up to 116 without the med.

She already stopped my glipizide, but I’m still on 1000mg of Metformin

I was only taking Glipizide. I switched to Abilify last May and my blood sugar went down. I was on Zyprexa.

My sugar went up and up since starting APs. But with diet, exercise, and losing weight, my sugar has come down a lot. My last A1C was only 5.5

thats weird, abilify is suppose to raise blood sugar. I guess maybe Zyprexa raises it more? Dunno anything about Zyprexa.

My A1C was 5.7. 5.5 is in the normal range.

Metformin doesn’t cause hypoglycemia @LilyoftheValley
It shouldn’t do this.

I’m on 2000mg of Metformin.

Weird. I’ll have to figure out what’s going on. Today I didn’t exercise and had both protein and carbs and it dropped anyway.

Yeah go talk with your doctor it’s a good idea

I got low blood sugar symptoms from extreme diets, eating 1000-1200 calories/day. Was irritable and nervous too. Fixed that with increasing carbs intake 1600 calories/day. Up your carbs. Tell to your Dr about how many calories you’r eating and about your diet, how much carbs etc

She already knows what I’m eating. I got her approval. Men need more calories than women

Anyways the only way to fix low blood sugar is to up your carbs intake.

Don’t up your carbs. When it’s too low, take a sugar pill, and then follow up with protein to stabilize the level. Sounds like you need a lower dose of metformin. Cinnamon does a really good job stabilizing your sugar level. Mixed with oats in the morning, it’s a great way to start the day. Good luck! And talk to your doctor!
