Do you know your blood glucose levels?

Wow, I tested my blood sugar level today.
It was very high!! 210!

This was after lunch hours later.

I have decided to take better care of myself.
I am going to follow a lower carb diet and walk everyday.

To be honest I’ve been eating way too many carbs.

Hopefully I’ll get better test results.

I get bloodwork at least every year these days. Check out the whole lot! As you age it’s the thing you need to do so it’s not a bad thing hooking up with your local gp regularly!

Nope didn’t tested yet.

Have you had bad tests before? Its possible it could be the risperidone doing it.

No I have diabetes but it’s never been this high!
Yeah certain APs like Risperidone don’t help the situation.

Are you on metformin? Maybe get in touch with a nutritionist or do some in depth searching for diabetes diet plans for blood sugar online. You may have to change your life.

Yeah I’m on Metformin but I’m going to take things more seriously.
Everyone on an AP should be tested periodically.

I was in that category (on an ap) iuntil very recently being okayed by my pdoc to come off abilify. I have an unusual appetite for carbs even on just 2.5mg. I have reason to believe I may have high blood sugar on the low dose. Thankfully I haven’t lost my foot yet, LBVS

When I was on Abilify my blood glucose levels were normal.
But I also worked out more and watched what I ate.

Some people’s sugar goes through the roof on abilify. For others, not so. It can also have a delayed effect in some, or an inconsistent effect.

Yeah it’s hit or miss with Abilify

As far as I know my blood sugar is normal. I’d die if I became diabetic I love sugar too much

I don’t know mine but above 200 is diabetes, doctors don’t recommend to cut bread and the other carbs completely because diabetics are at higher risk of stroke and serious cardiovascular complications and if you cut carbs you would need to eat more fats.

Therefore they recommend to eat small portions of whole grain carbs (80g/100g) with veggies to slow down the absorption of glucose (which is the preferred source of energy for our body and the only one the brain accepts).

My HbA1c results were fine. I got the results last week. I’m on metformin due to abilify induced high blood sugar.

I am on Metformin too.
I just hope he doesn’t prescribe another more potent drug than Metformin.

Originally he prescribed Janumet.
Which is a combo diabetes med.
It contains Januvia and Metformin.

I refused it because of reports of pancreatic cancer as a side effect.

Even though it’s probably rare.

Never heard of it , thanks for the information. I’m on 1500mg metformin a day so I assume my doc would increase the dose first.

Yeah I’m on 2000mg of metformin.
Not sure but I think that this is the maximum dose.

Your doctor will probably raise your dose if need be.

Just checked with google and it’s 2500mg/day.

Oh ok thanks.
So I have some room to go up.
