You only take them when your sugar drops too low, to get it to raise out of the danger zone quickly. It’s not a carb you eat all the time. Then you follow up with a protein, to get the sugar level to equalize.
So you will take sugar everytime low blood sugar happens?
Cinnamon stabilizes your blood sugar levels so they don’t spike as much throughout the day. It’s a great thing to take in the morning. Carbs make your sugar levels spike, so it’s important for a diabetic like me, to limit myself.
If it drops too low, yes you take a special diabetic sugar tablet. It’s for emergencies only.
The only thing I heard was to drink orange juice.
Anything with sugar in it is good. I use the tablets in case I’m out and do not have access to juice.
I have those sugar pills. I guess next time I’ll take one
You have to eat carbs with low glycemic index.
Complex carbohydrates.
Well yeah its the same thing.
Not necessarily. But I’m not here to be a dietician.
this is so weird…we just had a minor panic sitch concerning my gf’s low blood sugar…she cooked herself something to eat and ate immediately…fine now…scared me to death…
Complex carbs is not used anymore. Now carbs are classified according to their glycemic index.
“Foods and drinks provide our body with energy in the form of carbohydrates, fat, protein and alcohol. Carbohydrates are the body’s preferred energy source. The glycaemic index (GI) is a way that carbohydrates in foods and drinks are ranked according to how quickly they raise the glucose level of the blood (also known as ‘blood sugar level’). It has replaced classifying carbohydrates as either ‘simple’ or ‘complex’.”
Okay. I don’t know what point you are trying to make. What am I ultimately wrong about?
Just saying its better to eat low glycemic carbs to cure low blood glucose and not wait for the blood glucose lvl to drop everytime to take a sugar pill. Thats not healthy. Its like only taking meds for sz when having symptoms. You have to always take them. And yes the only solution to raise blood sugar is by increasing carbs intake. I wasnt wrong.
When you eat, your blood sugar naturally raises and lowers. If you are a diabetic, it raises and lowers more quickly. It will spike. If it goes too low, which happens for multiple reasons, you want to take something quickly to raise it, and then follow up with some protein to get the sugar level up and then even the level. Eating a carb will cause it to spike again, so that’s why I don’t do that. It needs to be rich in protein, like yogurt or nuts or string cheese. You want something to get into your system quickly and effectively. I’m not going to argue with you what kind of carb you want to eat, but it needs to be rich in protein. No one is waiting for their blood sugar to drop too low on purpose if you think that. It’s part of having diabetes. It happens.
Oh she has diabetes? I didnt know that. That changes things.
That’s what we’ve been talking about this whole time. Diabetic blood sugar swings are difficult to deal with. She literally mentions her diabetic meds in the op.
I take Metformin and when I was eating very little carbs I experienced hypoglycemia symptoms. I had to raise my carbs intake. Its fixed now, no more symptoms. I thought the cause of her hypoglycemia was eating little carbs, 1200 calories/day.
That is a normal diabetic diet calorie intake. I’m also diabetic, just type one.
